Shadowloo Showdown V, one of Australia's major Fighting Game events, occurs in Melbourne this weekend (29-31 August 2014) and includes Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown as an official title. The event will be streamed live on Twitch TV, so tune in to catch the action!
The 2014 Tokai Cup was recently announced on the VFR website. This will be a VF5FS 5-on-5 team based tournament scheduled to take place on 14 September 2014, and will be streamed live on Twitch TV.
August was quite a busy month for major VF5FS events! On 8 August, 2014 there was the Czech Arcade International saw Europe's best (and some guy from Australia) get together in Prague, Czech Republic. On the 15th August, North America's best (and some guy from England) gathered on the East Coast of the US for New York Gathering 9 held in Brooklyn, New York. 17 years since VF3tb's launch in September 1997. 13 years since it's run ended in August, 2001. Summer, 2014 will see the world's best player crowned from a specially selected star-studded line up of 48 legends in an invitational world tournament, and streamed worldwide on Ustream.
Czech Arcade International is this year's major Czech Fighting Games tournament which takes place on the weekend from 8th to 10th August 2014. Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown is on the cards, and foreign players are expected from Germany, Austria, Poland and more! This is shaping up to be the largest VF5FS tournament in Europe this year, so don't miss out!
Check out this great article on Arcade Stick Input Lag Testing on the XBOX 360 and PS3. The first page is an overview of what "input lag" means, along with the a detailed description of the testing procedure used. The second page summarises the results of all the sticks tested, ranked accordingly into tiers, and the final page contains the raw test data. Do you remember GAVAN? From the same Youtube user, gekirinsyouryuu, comes this epic combo video showcasing all characters performing an Instant Kill combo. While some may not technically be 100% guaranteed, it's nonetheless impressive to watch with some extremely creative setups and situations, not to mention the fantastic editing and "bonus" footage!
EDGE recently featured a retrospective article on Virtua Fighter 5 which reflects back on their review of the Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown release in 2012. In reconsidering their initial assessment of the title two years later, they write: "but that learning, that process of discovery, refinement and perfection of the vast library of possibilities and potential is at the centre of what makes Virtua Fighter so endlessly rewarding."
