Wolf's Frankensteiner

Ok Myke's right about the catch throw usefulness as far as wall staggers and ETEG opps. Its a more advanced technique that needs consideration at higher levels of human vs. human playing.

As for the frankensteiner, the most regular time to land it is when the opp. TRs without doing a rising attack. While the opp. TRs you dash in with wolf to stick to the opp. ( I usually refer to this as "sticky rolling" ) and execute the Frankensteiner just before he rises ( this is in the same vein as low throwing a TRing opp. ). Wolf will supercede any attempt to escape or dodge or execute an attack. Doing the frankensteiner on a rising attack is tricky business though. But you can regularly beat out a "wake-up double palming" Akira with this tactic. The FS should be an okizeme tool primarily.

Other applications include :
- punishing slow recovering moves with a non-escapable throw which has good RO range. i.e. Blocked attacks that leave you in a side position ( Kage's f,f+K+G ).
- backthrowing a opp. who has thrown out a PPP or other automatic sequence which you have succesfully dodged.


As for all the other questions concerning P+K, f+P, low throw / jumping back kick and the GS damage, these were assessed and answered correctly.

 

have you noticed how the CPU always gets out of catdh throws by Punching you, but they never seem to "resist" akira's PIT? i find that odd. /versus/images/icons/confused.gif
and really, i was just saying that in a game, the big swing is probably better to surprise your opponent with, as people tend to just duck his frankensteiner.

Your advice was what I was posting this thread for in the first place. I have seen that 'sticky roll' tactic used in a video, and it was pretty good. I wanted to know how to do it. And you just told me, THANK YOU! I am sort of a risk taker when it comes to making attacks (one reason a lose a few matches not caring about the damage I would take if I miss the attack or it is blocked). But I could do that, with proper advice and training. Is there a time you could, lets say, 'coach' me on the 'stick roll' to the Frankensteiner, perhaps even some other stuff? But your post was what I was looking for in the first place. It took three pages (some of which were mere arguements that didnt need to be there) to get this. THANK YOU FINALLY!!

... people aren't ducking the frankensteiner on reflex probably, they just happen to be ducking when you tried it.
If they happen to be ducking when you try the giant swing, it also misses.

Comparing GS to uf+P+G, uf+P+G is slow, but uf+P+G is guaranteed 60 pts even if they enter a throw escape. Giant swing is 60 pts when tech rolled (and everyone can tech roll it) but escapeable.

 

To answer your other questions...

1. No way to guarantee 100 pts of damage from the giant swing except to swing them into the wall. The nice thing about a wall giant swing is you take full damage (I think?) and cannot tech roll, so you're also open to a pounce afterwards. Theoretically wolf can do the perfect GS into the wall and then u+P for 125 pts of damage.

Also, it's possible with a certain kind of wall bounce to combo from the giant swing. The opponent hits the wall and then falls to the floor, and sometimes if you're quick wolf can scrape them off the floor with an attack.

2. okizeme = pressuring a downed opponent. The idea is to use tactics that beat rising attacks and other methods of getting up, in the hopes that you can keep outguessing them and knocking them down until they're dead.

Your information is incorrect, doing the fastest motion for giant swing does NOT guarantee 100 points, it only guarantees 80, which is no better than wolf's KS.

To LtTitan: The fastest motion giant swing is tough to do so my advice is learn to whip out KS consistently. They're practically the same except KS is (for me) an easier motion. The fastest motion giant swing is good to go for if your back is to the wall and you know they will hit the wall for guaranteed damage.
Also master HCB+P+G,P+G,u+P - all together it's 75 points and very easy to do.

I already have a near perfect grip on the KS and it's motion. But I have trouble with the HCB part. I can do that when Im on the right, but then I have trouble with HCB on the right. For some reason, I cant get those off when Im on the opposite side.

To better explain it, when I am on the left side, I cant do motion, only the () motion. I also cant do from the left side, but on the right side i can do . I cant seem to get my thumb to go to the right as good as the left. (sorry if its confusing). But I have a good grip on the other stuff.

You didn't use any numbers like '80' in '100' in your post at all, you said "yes you can guarantee the maximum damage" by doing the fastest input giant swing.
... the maximum damage from the quick giant swing is 100 points, you just can't count on more than 80 points every time without a wall's help.

 

I see what you mean... a lot of people can do moves easier going one way and not the other. If you don't resort to a stick, I guess training mode is your only hope.

One reason to try for HCB+P+G,P+G instead of KS - if your back is to the wall and you're angled a little, HCB+P+G, P+G can be followed up with a ground throw that pushes them into the wall. Follow with a nice combo..

I suppose you can get KS into the wall followed by u+P too.

Yeah, I was thinkin about getting a stick, but I actually dont know where to get one, or what to look for. Since I never used one before, I dont know how I would fair with one. But I have been thinking about it a lot lately.

And about the follow-ups on the HCB+PG,PG stuff. I havent really done any follow up stuff. I have just been throwing out random combos, and single moves. It seems to be working, I made it to Hero rank yesterday. But I have been experimenting. I still cant seem to get the + --> --> . Cant seem to get it right. But I have some other stuff that works.

By the way, could you tell me what kind of pad I should get? When you say 'stick' you mean the arcade style gamepad, right? (dont know much termanology) But thanks for your help CreeD... Once again. /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

For stick, I mean joystick... there are a lot of them out there, you can do a search for "PS2 stick" and you'll see a lot of discussions on this board about which is best. From what I hear the tekken4 stick is pretty good, as is the official VF4 stick.

About wolf... I guess practice... b,f+P+K, b+P, u+P is one you'll need..
for HCB+P+G... ppress P+G again after the throw and wolf will clothesline the opponent, then just press u+P a soon as wolf recovers, he'll do a back turned pounce that they won't roll out of it. The other followup is to turn around and do wolf's pickup, and the trick to pull that off is to tap guard so that wolf turns around, then immediately enter d+P+G. If you time it right he picks them up and shoves them away. Nothing's guaranteed but if they hit a wall, you have a good chance for a combo.

 

Alright, I'll start trying to find either a Tekken stick or a VF4 stick. Because I have read a lot that says the stick is better in many ways than the controller.

And you dont have to describe the moves and talk like I dont know what they do. I am very proficent with Wolf, I know all his moves, and a variety of combos, and series of moves. No offense CreeD, but thanks for trying to explain it.

 

Creed is helping out. No one knows how much experience or what your proficiency is, at any time. Only by your post content can someone figure out at what level your at. I personnally have 10 000 or so games vs. human opps. and a few thousand on single player/kumite. But I'd still get my ass kicked over in Japan. It takes a whole hell of alot of fights vs. very good human opps and an environment that promotes that type of play in order to be in any place to claim proficiency in the game. Hate or feelings of not being respected will halt your growth. Creed knows alot more about VF than you, period. Be patient and take what info you think is interesting from his posts and add it to your own library of knowledge.

Also when you post it isnt always necessarily specific info only for you to read. Alot of the veteran posters will have a mode of posting you'll recognise as being readable by just about anyone who happens on it.

"yes, you can guarentee the max damage from the big swing.
you have to input ++
as fast as possible. you can tell if you are doing it right in a fight becuase the camera changes and zooms in on wolf."
so it was really quite obvoius what i said.
