Man, Sarah is pretty much Tae Kwon Do minus her weird throws. They should seriously just get rid of that "Martial Arts" tag and call it that, but whatever.

Besides, TKD is such an obvious choice for a Korean martial art. I say surprise them and make a Hapkido character!

<span style='font-size: 8pt'>*and I'm not saying this because I happen to be a practitioner of said martial art and am currently trying to get his 1st degree black belt lol</span>

Tae Kwon Do.....hmmmm. does Virtua Fighter really need one. I mean if you look at their roster, it strays away from the classics. It has Hakkyokuken, Drunken Boxing, Jeet Kun Do, these styles you really never hear of. Well in mainstream. Its always Karate or Tae Kwon Do or some variation of the style. Looking back at the first Virtua Fighter I'm pretty sure people never heard of the styles, well at least were I'm at.

But then again, I'm hearing that the new guy does Karate, so maybe there will be Tae Kwon Do Fighter, maybe.

As for the whole marketing thing, I doubt that having a Tae Kwon Do fighter will improve the Virtua Fighter status in Korea. Maybe they're all simple minded and like flashy-bright colored things and button mashing......Just kidding.......maybe.

Anywho, thats my two-cents. Take it and like it.

taekkyun was known for being almost dance-like in its style and i wouldn't take that wikipedia page seriously unless it was written in korean first. most practitioners of taekkyun are likely studying a bastardized style because instructors of the style were killed during the japanese occupation to suppress korean martial arts...

anyway, i dont really think taekkyun would mix well with VF. HKD might as well be aoi's aikido and another kicking character would just be sarah #2.

Aoi's style is not Aikido but Aiki-Jujutsu and the hwarangs didn't train in Hwarang-do that's a modern martial art based on both Kuk Sul Won and Hapkido, it's more likely they trained in Subak.

Oh and i just watched the HKD episode in Korea of Fight Quest. I recommend the Sanda, KKK and Boxing episodes too. Great show.

Word, that's crazy, I didn't know about the Japanese killing of the Masters. I need to read up on this. Just when I finish reading about the "Burning of the books" in China. Thanks for the insight, SillyWilly.

Sebo, make smashy happen, please. Can he get customization that'd make him look 'Orky'? The way he fights reminds me of Orcs from W40K Dawn of War /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

ANyway, I really would like to see AM2 making a Hapkido fighter as well. Looks amazing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Or Sega could be like Namco when they changed Mitsurugi to Arthur. Just make Sarah a man, give her a Korean sounding name, diffrent hair, and favorite food kimchi. And there you have it. Its been on my mind for a long time.

Yeah, but Namco did that because Samurai (their mere existence) are vulgar, and hence SC wouldn't do so well in Korea.

As far as changing the gender; that wouldn't explain why he doesn't fall down in a match or get phone calls at 4 a.m. in the morning waking up all of his roommates because he has an awful ring tone with shit dance music at max volume. But at least he provides the internet!

I know Namco made the change for ethical reasons, but I just ranted the whole Korean-Sarah thing because thats how I fell this thread is going. I think VF's TKD fighter is Sarah anyway.
It would be better if there was a Hapkido fighter instead anyway. But it would fell like another Vanessa. Oh well, I should stop while I'm ahead.

Hwarangdo claims of being a traditional art = bullshido. The Grand Master Joo Bang Lee founder of Hwarangdo claims that he learned the art from an annonymous hermit monk in the mountains...It's very unlikely that the martial arts that the Hwarangs trained in survived (some speculate to be Subak).

Like most arts in Joseon dynasty they weren't practiced because of the neo-confucianism idology. Not to mention the japanese occupation after that which almost completely destroyed all trace of the traditional martial arts in the peninsula. The only traditional arts that managed to survive such periods were Taekkyon and Ssireum cause of the folk game tradition.

I think Joo Bang Lee was a very skilled master(8th dan in Hapkido) but his organization turned to be like a brainwasher cult that cares more about the money than teaching martial arts. One thing is to claim that his modern martial art was "inspired" by the Hwarang warriors and the other is to claim that is a legitmate traditional Hwarang art which is completely BULLSHIDO!

where are you getting your info? i am familiar with the story of its origins and the historians dispute on its creation. but it sounds like you're doing a whole lot of cutting and pasting. what do you really know?

If you're familiar with the history then you should know...
    http://www.hwarangdo.com/Magazines/blackbelt10-00.htm
    http://www.hwarang.org/Photojournal.html

Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu > Hapkido > Kuk Sul Won and Hwarangdo

Shotokan Karate, Shudokan Karate and Taekkyon > Tang Soo Do/Kong Soo Do > Taekwondo KTA > ITF, WTF, etc.

Neither General Choi Hong Hi and Choi Yong Sul denied the japanese influence in TKD and HKD and there's nothing to be ashamed of. There is no evidence of Hwarangdo being a traditional martial art practiced by the Hwarangs since all was lost. Don't believe all the nationalistic propaganda. It's like saying that the samurangs truly existed (Haidong Gumdo claims)...

I invite you to ask all the questions you want in Bullshido.com There are many respectable martial artists with tons of material to share there so feel free to ask. Go to the Korean martial arts forum and ask for Hwarangdo. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Or just search for Hwarangdo there are many threads about the art already.

Death to McDojos and bs in martial arts! Support Bullshido.com!

I think everyone in here is going way out of hand on Korea's history of the Li dynasty to Japan's Occupation. However, I still keeps my hopes up if Sega will add any Korean martial arts in the Virtua Fighter series.[/size]
