I've had people say Virtua fighter has "fighters" mechanically as opposed to characters, I didn't understand this at first but once I got it, I finally understood the reason for the game's anemic roster.

 

I think Sarah Bryant's style should be labeled as MMA. I'll explain why:

- Her style is labeled as "Martial Arts". Just add "Mixed" and you'll get MMA.

- The 2nd version of the Dural project was modeled after Sarah. The ultimate combat machine. It makes sense that it incorporates an all around fighting style.

- She has a close relationship with Vanessa who does Vale Tudo a precursor for MMA. It only makes sense that they sometimes train together and exchange techniques while having their distinctive styles. There are many sub styles in MMA.

- She is the sister of Jacky who already has the style of an early form of MMA in Jeet Kune Do while Jacky enjoys competing in Indy racing and practicing and teaching JKD as in his private daily life. Sarah enjoys winning every combat sports competition there is.

- Sarah's style is already labeled as Mixed Martial Arts in Dead or Alive 5

- VF4 buffed Sarah looks alike Holly Holm a well known MMA fighter and former boxer who emphasis on flashy kicks.



It would be so cool to see Sarah with full MMA outfit and gloves, something she didn't get in DOA5 but her other MMA counterpart Mila did.

 

Since there's no obvious melee Arab martial art I think it would be cool that they make Siba/Majid an unorthodox boxer like Prince Naseem. Rashid's style in Street Fighter is labeled as "wind and parkour" and Shaheen from Tekken as "military martial arts"

 

If they ever think to reintroduce the karateka Takeru from the VF1 discarded models to the roster they could model his style as Shotokan or Traditional Karate which is different from the karate that Jean uses which is based on Kyokushin.

If they have problems with licensing the styles just named them "traditional karate" for Takeru and "knockdown karate" for Jean. There are multiple styles of kung fu in VF so other style of karate wouldn't hurt, specially if they are so different but I would prioritize other styles from other countries.

If they do it would be a nice way to recycle Takeru and the other discarded models from VF1. The last Killer Instinct did that with their old boss characters and League of Legends does it all the time with very old characters. Re-imagined them with a complete unique style and personality. Nothing goes to waste.

I wouldn't mind seeing another karate user.

 

I wouldn't mind another type of kickboxer. As a martial arts knowledge newb, my fingers point toward Dutch Kickboxing though have some more emphasis on the boxing and kyokushin karate parts of the style over the muay thai aspects for the sake of not looking similar to Brad.

I also think a street fighter might be interesting to see. Not necessarily what I'd want just interested enough to see how they'd pull it off.

I second @Adamay 's suggestion for a traditional karate user. Maybe the design of the user himself could be an older, adequate looking man. Jean is pretty much a punk lookin' youth using most aspects of modern karate styles so why play up the opposite? Though what aspects of older karate styles could work, I'm not very knowledgeable at unfortunately. The only ones I know of by name are Shotokan and Goju-ryu.

This may or may not be an unrelated note: With the whole BS with VF's storyline involving Judgement 6, go nuts. Make a story mode. Good or bad or generic, at least do something with it as they're still mentioning J6 in their character bios with 2 J6 assassins in the roster being Goh and Jean. (Hell, Goh has "J6" on the back of his VF4 and VF5 judogi design)

Also, no more Durals, pls. Dunno if those words might be blasphemous but I stand by my opinion.

Well Jeff ended up becoming Prototype Jack and Takeru ended becoming Jin...lol

 

Takeru ended up becoming Kazuya not Jin. Jin made his first appearance in Tekken 3. It would be nice to see a re-imagining of those ideas into new characters. It would be a nice history lesson for the VF haters. Killer Instinct and League of Legends did the character reworks perfectly.

Since Takeru was a discarded model for VF1 he would be older than Jean. He would be a more mature karateka. I said Shotokan because is the 1st Japanese adapted style that came from Okinawa and is the most practiced style in the world. Okinawan styles like Shorin (Shaolin), Goju, Shito, Wado are other interesting choices.

 

Yeah, they should bring back Takeru and his Karate style.
And bring Jeff back, as a former army dude, with a wrestler/special forces fighting style.
