The video quality, TV resolution, and video cables will not cause lagging or slow character movement....Just to clarify, you can connect to a standard TV with AV cables and it works fine online? Then you use component cables on a 1080p TV, connect online, and its laggy?

Sorry I couldn't get back to you. Monday is crazy for me. That TV thing is totally weird. My sense is that the TV should not effect the connection at all. You should get an HDMI cable, but I can't see how that would help the internet connection. Maybe their is still something in the XBox dashboard that is still configured to deal with the old TV. Otherwise, no clue about what you should do.

Yes, that sucks. About the only thing I used the Evo Record feature for back in the day was to deal with people who use multiple d+p. Block the first, stick in an elbow. Now it can be hard and so frustrating when some lame ass throws out two low punches and you can't interrupt them and then get thrown.

Thanks for the response guys. Yes, when playing on SDTV with regular AV cables, the connection is amazing, but when playing with component cables on 1080p Bravia (with 360 set to output 720p), the online play is a sluggish mess. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Thats really weird. Make sure you are running 720p on your tv and not trying to view at 1080p.

Just make sure both the xbox and TV are on the same signal. You don't want any converting going on between your xbox and TV especially with the frame usage in this game.

I think you said this already, but is off line on the 1080p TV ok?

My HDTV has a "game mode" option that is supposed to speed something up when playing video games (not sure what). See if your TV has that feature.

Thanks for all your help Auvii. Yes, offline *seems* ok (i haven't extensively tested, but combos come out fine, whereas online, i can't even connect basic combos with any frequency).

I suspect there is some kind of converting going on. I just wish i knew how to stop it. The puzzling thing is that when i check the display info on my TV screen, it clearly states "720p".

Adnan - see if your TV has something called, or related to, 1:1 pixel mapping. 1:1 mode exists in Sharp Aquous, for instance, and its use clears up HDTV-induced lagging.

Thanks again guys. I just found out that Bravias have a "game mode" setting which pipes the signal through without any type of filtering. I guess i will mess around with the settings when i get home. *fingers crossed*

    All the the Tech Pimp!

My Aquos doesn't have anything like that. Since I got HDMI cables it looks so freaking awesome...

    Hey Adam, what's up?

You know, I have to say that this xbox live thing is probably the best thing that's ever happened to VF in America as long as I've been playing. Just being able to hit the guide button on my EX2 stick and immediately see all my friends online and what they're doing is amazing. I can't emphasize enough how awesome it is to be able to play against almost anyone at any time.

Hopefully there will be some downloadable content in the future to fix the disconnect issues and improve the online features a bit. Overall though, it's fucking great!!

I surely hope there's an update released for this game allowing lobbies of some sort. At the very least, there should be a lobby for friends list buddies wishing to stand in line to beat each other. I guess a character selection screen after finding matches wouldn't hurt either.

    I complain a lot, don't I? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

i agree, not having lobbies and having to go back to the menu to switch characters really sucks but we did get what we wanted.. online play cant ask for more lol.

i dunno man, i'd sooner be playing all the time than hanging about in a lobby waiting my turn. the quartermaster thing in street fighter bored me shitless and the lag was really bad at times.

before am2 went down this route i'd like to see a patch address some (fairly) simple additions:

    1. add stage select and character select at end of every player match.

    2. add "play again" option to ALL player games, not just those on friends list.

    3. add an infinite time option so people can just train without restarting rounds.

    4. add an "upload replay" option after a match so players can store and access other people's matches online similar to halo 3. the game already caches your arcade time attack data so this wouldn't be such a big deal.

    5. allow ulocking of items and money in ranked online matches.

    6. add a field in vf.tv that displays the last match of the top 10 ranked players on live for viewing.

for me the above would make an already amazing game close to perfect.

I agree. Those additions would be great. #5 would definitely need some analytical planning though--to prevent some players from cheating the system for items.

However, I do believe that there should be a friends-specific lobby mode, at the very least. For me, there's no better feeling than having a group of 4 or 5 buddie's spectating as you and another buddy go at it. That would truly recreate the arcade feel. Not only that but it could also give players a little more incentive for playing with sportsman-like competiveness. Considering that without lobbying, matches tend to be a bit more impersonal (leaving many players feeling compelled to play cheap for winning's sake), implementing an optional lobby-mode could possibly encourage people to 'play nice'.

Of course this is all just my theoretic approach on this matter. I'm quite sure there must have been some factors that AM2 would have had to compromise in order to include lobbies, otherwise they probably would have done it.

To get as minimal lag as possible.
