Machi
The ability to annoy your opponent to death by boredom by playing keep away. This most of the time makes your opponet throw out a move and then you can take advantage of their whiffed move. This term is also known as turtling, cheap (lol), come and fight me you f---! It is a all around great tactic to use if you can't find a weakness in their defense.

i see what you mean...but wouldn't it be really boring for the players waiting in the lobby to play? sounds a bit like the street fighter set-up where you wait in a lobby of 4 and watch each pair fight. but even that introduced lag as each system had to send packets to the spectators. the way sega have developed online vf5 seems to produce a really good connection with no frills, i like it that way.

having said that, the one thing i really wish they'd included is the ability to upload your match replays to a server and watch other people play 'offline' as it where. that would be such a cool feature. kind of what i was expecting vf tv to be, but it wasn't to be /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

not to mention the vanessa's constantly spamming her charging kick (the one that crumples on counter or staggers) followed by her ground grapple...over and over and over again. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

It's the worst kind of machi, nothing funnier than turning the table on them and showing them how dry there play style can be, i had a few people drop cause of that lol ,
somehow I get the feeling vf5's system promotes this kind of play more than 4 *shrugs*
I wish they left the playstyle icons from ft, then you'd see all these chickens running about /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Manjimaru, thanks for sharing this. You mentioned that the Live network was really flaky for you recently so I'd be interested to hear if your experience with lag changes once the Live network resumes it's normal performance level.

I know exactly what you're talking about though. I've played on a variety of TV sets that had lag for different reasons (upscaling, etc) and it was both very noticeable and extremely unnerving for me to play on. My Akira combos would be ruined because I'd end up seeing Akira visibly crouch dash for a few frames before the DbPm came out! Same for Kage Kneeing after the TFT. I hated the fact that I had to adjust my timing early in order to compensate. Actually, I think this is worse than playing blindfolded, because your hand/eye coordination skills are forced to be out of synch, and if you play like this for too long, it could ruin your timing in a real (offline) game.

The lag is almost akin to when in ssf2 when you get slowdown and you have to buffer the moves slower,
the buffer window just severely increases,

I can see timing for combo's getting out of sync,
but you will be using training mode for practice,
as long as offline play is still experienced in the majority i don't think it should harm your game.

I swear I was almost fuzzying online, I was testing it out, and on one round I seemed to be fuzzying pretty well, it wasn't at the really tight minus though.
Someone should test for example akira's vf4 evo fuzzy challenge online and post the results... ( I may if I get the chance)

Hi! I'm italian and I've played with someone from this forum. manjimaru (2 times. One win for player. I'm Ricciotto, the black/red Goh)) and a finnish guy. I'm really happy. No lag for me, most of the time.
Glad to play with you, guys /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

myke, given you're based in australia it looks like you're going to be limited to playing online against people in your own continent.

i've already played about three guys from australia and the lag was absolutely horrendous, to the point of not being playable. thinking about it geographically the nearest playable base for you would be japan or asia, but even then you're talking about a vast distance.

MAXIMUM, yeah, I've pretty much resigned to this fact already once/if I buy a 360.

As disappointing as it would be not to play (even for fun) all you guys, playing the locals might still be fun. Who knows, it may even have a positive side effect of increasing interest in the game locally.

I don't think, Myke, that online will still be good enough for you to play without you experiencing the annoyance that you felt with the upscaling lag. When people are saying there's no lag, they're not the people pulling max-damage stance-specific combos who can buffer Akira's double palm behind P in a combo, if you see what I mean (me included). It will definitely mess with your offline timing if you spend too much time online. Definitely.

But it's great for newcomers to the series, which is what we need more than anything else.

to be fair i don't think anyone here has said there's "no lag". what people are impressed with, myself included, is how well the game plays over a good connection. it has most definately exceeded my own and many other people's expectations. the performance is particularly impressive relative to other offerings like street fighter and doa, both of which suffer from far worse issues than vf5.

and i've played some very very good akira's and jeff's online, even in laggy situations.

would playing online really throw your offline game? if you spent most of your vf playtime online...perhaps, but overall i really doubt it's going to have a huge effect.

even playing a relatively simple character like lion i've had no issue moving back and forth between online and quest mode. your brain adjusts to the differing excecution time almost immediately.

i can still pull off

But how's the AI for offline practice? Does it use exact recovery and wakeups? The PS3 AI did neither. Does the AI also cheat on the hardest setting at the highest rank? Will it automatically block all your lows.

Re: VF5 XBOX 360 First impressions now that I have

I will point out once more that online matches still work surprisingly well when the players are roughly from the same continent. The few laggy people might just have slow connection or something. I have even played a few relatively playable matches against some rare US people although 90% of US matches are too laggy for me.

But when doing tight stuff like fuzzy in -6, I think online play causes the timing to go off slightly. This is so small difference that it is possible to compensate for it(as long as latency remains relatively constant), and as long a player practises both offline and online then I think overall online can be used as a learning experience. And when talking about some people who have absolutely no local competition, online can be a real blessing. Especially since it is possible to set up a nonranked 1v1 session with your friend with option to repeat the match without hassle (changing characters however is a hassle, that was weak from Sega)

I will comment more next week when hopefully the XBL has resumed relatively normal performance. I think theres been something fishy with XBL this week. Maybe a flux of new xbl members or something.

Ok, It's impossible to use some technics, but the game plays well. I was scared thinking about VF online, but the results are really good. I can even use fuzzy guard! Ok, it's impossible to use some very specific combos, but it's not so bad.

See, this is what I don't understand: fuzzy @ -6 requires essentially no timing, other than being able to buffer crouchdash before your recovery ends. I could see fuzzy at lower disadvantages not working correctly because your timing for standing up was off, but if -6 fuzzy doesnt work, how does anything at all work?

. . . back to waiting for local stores to get the game in . . .
