Maybe they are trying to get the top players from the VF2 days to start playing seriously again by adding the bingo feature! :p

Watch the E3 segments on G4.( I saw them saturday and SUnday, dont know if they're being re-aired).The Guy from SEGA of AMERICA said there would be a version of Bingo in VF5 on 360. Something interesting he also said was the would be a career mode. Meaning the great stat tracking that was in VF4 will return. WOOT!!!!!!!

i like that the fact VF will get more exposure by having online play for the 360. i wonder though, if the game doesnt play the way it does offline is it still considered a VF game.

also if you lose when playing an online match is it really considered a loss if its a close match and lag caused you to lose the match? imo it will take away from wins when people start saying i wouldnt have lost if we played offline?

i dont how sega will make VF5 play online. i do know however VF5 wont play as well as it does offline. all these so called VF purist will never admit to any online loses. thats what i think will happen with online play.

they might be right though if a down to the wire match was decided by lag. the reason why VF is my favorite fighter is because of its deep gameplay. i personally want to play version c. this might be the only way you can experience it.

also if any system is going to get a patch for VF5 its going to be the 360. think about it how often do PS3 games get a patch? im sorry i know i posted this in another topic but it seems that topic has turned into a flame war.

i just want to get some opinions on what i posted.

online wins never count in the fighting game community.

Nope; if I understand things correctly, it counts a lot in the eyes of those online *unspeakable*, who will boast of their online record like, well I dunno, but I don't want to imagine nor do I care about their record.

Ugh, makes me feel sick just thinking about it.

Online records and whatnot doesn't mean shit. Everyone who plays fighting games seriously knows this. Win at a major tourney then you can have bragging rights.

I'll definitely check out the online but I could care less about it. I'm just glad to get more peeps to play VF5.

Honestly, anybody who is now saying they don't care about online or making excuses why it will suck is just lying themselves.

The best thing about online play is that you can play games against others that are not in your local area.

Will online play dramatically change the offline VF scene for the better? I don't think so.

I think online play will be similar to Quest Mode: Good, for experience and learning the game. Bad, because it is easy for people to start playing the game with "bad habits."

I don't care that much about online play, it's great for casual play. Who really takes online play seriously? The game is great without it, especially it being version c. Sure it's a great opportunity for VF to grow, but what do you think the percentage of casual players will actually become serious competitors? If the gameplay is compromised to be easier online, they're going to break their ankles offline. So I'm guessing there will be two different communities.

I just hope the online mode works without big differences to the offline version, if the connection between the players is good.
For example if they live in the same country just in a neighboring city.

Only time will tell to see if online play will play anywhere close to offline play.Whether it's a lag fest or not, this will definitely help the VF community grow, and will be great for players lacking any kind of VF competition around their areas.I'm just hoping that the PS3 will get a patch or updated release so both system owners can be play each other without any problems(move property changes)

If the online mode is good at all, a lot of people might start playing. In VF, the game is fun even when you are not that great, if you are playing someone who is also not so experienced. It could provide a nice way for people to get past the initial difficulty of learning the game without waiting around in a winner stays rotation where the new players will always get their asses kicked.

no voice? why? surely the main benefit of online VF will be its potential to build a community and allow players to exchange information.

it's a guaranteed fact the online mode will have lag, ditching voice comms is not going to improve this. as already stated the amount of data being thrown about is very small...7-8k packets at most. besides which, xbox live has a layer of software that permits voice chat in any game. sega couldn't disable this even if they wanted to.

I really can't wrap my head around how they could compensate for lag without throwing off the balance of the game.

That being said, I do think that online play could do wonders in growing the community. If you compare it to say... an FPS on the PC, where friends play regularly online. Then get together for LAN parties or, go out to internet cafes to play more seriously with less lag and better ping. It could do this, but a lot of people don't dig as deep as they should into fighting games. And the industry in general has very few games with lasting large online communities.
