Get a dope player to host matches with a bunch of other dope players on a stream and post the link on every fighting game site and make a big announcement.

    ---or---

Get a community-based tutorial vid created (for the fighting system and each character) instead of having people search for VF4EVO on amazon.com/gamestop/etc.

    ---or---

    Do both.

Look, we all know people on this site's preferences lie with VF. That is not what I meant when I referred to "insinuating VF is a better game". Rather, it's people getting the impression that VF fans are elitist and don't value others' skills in different games. Just something I've observed.

I've seen more shit talk from Tekken fans about games that aren't Tekken more than anything else.

Seidon, what a great idea, and I'd be happy to support this as well. If you'd be willing to run and organise this, then send me a PM and I'll see how I can get you access to certain site resources to help out.

It'd be great to develop a collection for the following:

    • High level matches: categorised by (the winning?) character
    • Combebacks: we can even play with this by calling it the "no ultras, no rage meters, no comeback mechanics - just skill" highlights! Heck, throw in some Guile theme music while we're at it? [IMG]
    • Combos: categorised by character because everyone loves combos
I've got a bunch of youtube videos liked/fave'd which I'll happily contribute toward the high level matches and comebacks collection. But I think it would be cool if we generated an edited Combos collection, rather than just link an entire match.

So if we roll-out one character per week, give it the VFDC front page treatment along with the other social outlets, and submission to other FG sites (SRK, etc), then it gives everyone a chance to have some involvement.

Question: Does anyone have experience with ripping youtube videos for the purposes of re-editing? Closest thing I've done is download as a flash video file, but I don't know how friendly this is for editing? I plan to do some research myself, but was interested if anyone had any personal experience or advice to start with. Thanks!

Sounds good, Myke. I'm off Sunday/Monday so I'll get started then. If anyone wants to link me some videos feel free to send me a PM. I think we should start with Akira. Sound good?

When I download videos from youtube I use www.keepvid.com
you can save them in MP4 format and if they happen to have higher quality versions you can download them aswell.

They worked a treat for me in Sony Vegas, hope this helps.

Myke, if you don't want to pass through a 3rd party site like keepvid (as was suggested): firefox + greasemonkey adddon + YousableTubeFix.

Greasemonkey is also available for the "Chrome" browser. If you're one of those folks who swear by microsoft's Internet explorer, Firefox is also available in a portable format. I don't know about greasemonkey + opera, sorry.

May I ask why someone wouldn't want to 'pass through' a 3rd party site? I've used it for a couple of years now with absolutely no problems and can vouch for it's safety.

Also regarding Seidon's idea.. I think it may be a good idea to have a small paragraph detailing what the character is about, their playstyles, difficulty level for beginners, what type of player they may be suited for, what they excel at (throw based characters, characters with reversals etc etc) as to give people a better idea of what the character is about (even some background or story info might be a good idea, that appeals to alot of people i think, especially newbies & casuals).

For example, this is from the SRK SFIV wiki..

It's faster, that's all. The script inserts download links inside the youtube page itself.

Thanks for the video ripping feedback guys.

    OK, let's start with Akira.

Seidon, do you want to create a thread in the Akira forum for this, so people can submit replies? It will prevent double-ups if everyone else can see other submissions.

Yeah, I'll make one when I finish work. I'm without a PC at the moment but I'll make one when I get in. I'm gonna start looking at videos when I finish work tomorrow. Should write up a breif outline of the character as well. Really advertise the characters in terms of gameplay and back story.

I'd like to know how I can contribute. I'm not a VF player myself (at least right now) but I feel compelled to get people interested in this game.
