End of a chapter, Starting a new one in August ^0^

Apologize in advance for not finishing the entire story in the early weeks....but I changed jobs..etc etc etc.

So anyway...I'm just gonna skip to the big day itself

BEAT TRIBE CUP!

6am

The clock rings, I wake up...I press a button..I go back to sleep.

7am

I wake up..starts screaming for the rest to wake up....
the tournament starts at 8am SHARP...we were already...LATE! So I bolted to the shower room..opened the door...n this russian chick was in the shower BUTT NAKED! We were just looking at each other...n in my mind..I was simply thinking...' WTF .....GET OUT I NEED TO SHOWER...NOW!'

(i suppose, in hindsight..it was a rather fortunate thing..but, wrong timing...I mean, jesus I was pressed for time..and staring at a naked chick is a total waste of my time at that particular moment! Thankfully for me, she didn't scream out loud..I mean, christ lady..lock the door next time! I told Michi who said ' well, her fault for not locking..your gain for not knocking hahaha)

So I had my shower..went n find the sol cal guys...got them up n ready...n we all took off to the train station...

now, to get to differ ariake, we need to switch to monorail line...so when we hopped onto the monorail....our first thought was

' gee guys..there's us 5 blokes...n 100 cosplay chicks.....wth is going on'

Turns out, we were passing Japan animation convention centre...don't exactly know the name...but u see it in animes all the time...

But when we passed that convention centre..i swear...there were more than 1000 chicks alone...

women = 99%
male population = 1%

So we arrived at differ ariake at 8.30....

luckily for us...shun dave's team haven't started yet...They got a bye in round 1..so they advanced to round 2 by default..we were all jumping in joy...coz I mean..shit...late for the tournament....and we still made it to round 2...awesome!

Lucky for me too, coz I promised Akira dave I would bring this team there on time! holy shit...if we were late.....oops~

LUCKY!

By then..everyone was getting hungry..so we decided to go find food..So a rather big group of us started walking...hoping to find mcdonalds...

Me : hey, Mcdonalds' this way
Kyasao: no no..we go straight
Me: but I saw guys coming here with Mcdonalds...n they were from that direction
Kyasao: it's ok..we go this way...see see look look first
Me : might be going in a circle!
Kyasao: hmm...never know!

15 mins later

Kyasao : hey..let's turn left!
group : OK!

10 mins later

Me : hey, it's Mcdonalds!
Group: yay!
Me : hey, differ ariake is right across the bridge!
Group : well, it's a hell lot quicker going back then!

Kyasao : are u guys sure abt Mcdonalds???

So we ended up waiting for another 30 mins for italian restuarant to open up!!!!!

In a way, it all worked out beautifully...gave us another chance to be away from VF and just gather around and chat n spend some time together as a group.

And this was the outcome

It was quite a good moment for all of us.

At the very same place, we ran into Shinjuku Jacky and Ikekuburo sarah.

So after breakfast...we went back to ariake..and the fights began.

Team- 'we don't speak Japanese'
Memebers, suguro star, kazu, namflow, jerky, pos akira

Jerky was the first to open fire and he played very well in his opening round. His opponent was a Kage who after round one, decided macchi was the way to piss Jerky off lol.

Then came namflow...who was unfortunately defeated by macchi kage again....Then came Kazu...who was unfortunately defeated by GAY KAGE,....again...>.<

Things were not looking good...but help came in the form of SS!

S.Star took out 2members of the opposition team on his own...before going down to the 3rd dude. It was good stuff. Exciting to be cheering for this team. shinz, Kyasao, Ryan, heruru, brunbrunmaru...even chibita, came n cheered....

With S.Star gone, it was down to the Korean storm...

but alas, after a tough battle with the final member of the opposing team...POS ...MAKEDA...T____T.

Still, it was quite an exciting memory...to be able to revisit the moment in my head...good stuff!

I immediately went looking for shun dave's team....
But when I found him, he was just getting up....
another international team down...T_____T

Then I went to look for hanabi and started cheering mad behind him when shizuoka ocha was playing.

with 3 memebers down..n 4 players from the opposing team to take down, Hanabi stepped in and tried his best to save the team...and he ALMOST did it..
but alas, his opponent..whom I forgot..but I remmebered being an Akira...evaded Hanabi's d/f,d/f+p (lei)...and did a deep body check into the wall....hanabi had around 70 pts of health left..but the bodycheck plus wall damaged killed his lei....

Akira had only 10 hp left.....T___T

So mukki was the last man standing, destoryed the Akira..and played against last man for opposing team...and it was SO CLOSE...both down to minimal health...mukki knees! Lion guards!

both stands still, looking at each other. Lion player didn't even attempted to throw mukki at all...he had so much respect for mukki..believing that mukki can successfully TE at such a critical moment.


Both players did nothing for like 2 secs, then mukki senses lion's abt to attack..decides to evade...

Alas...it was a sweep.

Ocha team camp all screamed in horror....T_____T

By now, my throat was bitching...so I needed to go grab a drink...

Around this time, I noticed ALOT of players were outside of the arena...I was wondering...' hmm...why aren't they inside watching?' Later on, I would find out for myself.

At around 1pm, the last international team starts their first bout...

Team International
Kyasao, ryan, adam, shinz, heruru

Adam, who was relaxed for the whole morning...started becoming tensed and nervous...but performed well in his first game of the tournament. but he was taken down...

Next up was shinz! The opposing team didn't expect to face him THIS EARLY...and shinz nearly tated them.
But he went down and Ryan was left to clean up the last guy rather easily.

By now, we were all cheering mad and spirits really high..1 min later, the next team battle was on...

Before the fight, Kyasao took a look at the oposition's team data (player name and character) and decided on the team formation...I do not remember much abt this battle, except for the BEST MOMENT when Adam, who was 3rd for the team, was playing against the last man for the opposing team...Adam walked up to lion player...did a splash mountain....yamagishi and audiences go wild....adam then...decided to do another splash mountain...audience and yamagishi starts screaming...all of us behind adam going ' OMFG!!!' Opponent had 10 hp left, Adam, thinking in his head ' I cannot stomp him after the splash mountain...this is Japan, they know how to escape...' but, running out of ideas, he decided to stomp the lion..and it WORKED!...By this stage..we were like ' WTF LOL YAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY;

Adam defeats lion...and the team was going off to a great start...


Then came the last team battle, if we win...we qualify.
Once again, Kyasao looks at the opposing team players' info..and told Adam...

' Ok, u go first..most likely, they will send out lei...NOW..the critical thing is...DO NOT DO this particular move after Lei TRs...Lei will counter with b,f p+k...u will LOSE !'

In the heat of the battle, Adam did jeff's f,b+p (If i remembered the command wrongly , sorry...but it's a chopping move that leaves the opponent back facing on a hit)....and Lei really did b,f p+k to avoid adam's attack...and Kyasao was literally, screaming ' NOOOOOOOO'...

Adam screaming ' SHIT HABIT!'

But what really made everyone go ' wth' was....
'how did kyasao know this would be Adam's downfall in the first place'?

Kyasao fight against an Pai player was super insane...
I don't know how to describe the match. In ryan's word
' we were so lucky to watch this match in person....never forget such an exciting match'.
The best way to describe the vic is....' OH MY GOD U PULLED THAT WIN OUTTA UR ASS!!!!!'

When he won the match from what seemed to be..impossible...he turned around..looked at me...we were shaking eaching other like mad n all of us were just going..' WAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH'..Insane shit

But, unfortunately for us...we lost this battle. Thus the team was thrown into the death match, Shinz having to take out 5 players on his own..and he almost did it!...until the last match with Chibita...such a close game. Even the audiences were feeling the heat. Guys like shinjuku Jacky and others had mixed feelings. They want chibita to win...yet they also want shinz to win.

It's prolly one of the toughest tournament ruling ever...knowing ur loss = entire team goes out...it was truly worthy of the tag ' death match'. Every hit counts. Every mistake hurts.

I suppose..if u ever got to see the matches online or in a dvd...one might think ' oh well..what a shame'...

But from our pov and especially mine...I was right next to the dude the entire time. I was cheering like mad. Heruru was praying like mad. Kyasao was giving out advices like mad. Etc etc etc...

It might be a one man show by shinz. But effectively, all of us there felt every hit, every throw. We shared the same relief and joy when he won..we all shared the same fear that he might lose...at times, when the situation looked abit bleak...we were constantly giving him endless support...in a way, we were 'into' the game ourselves as well, even though we were not playing. I suppose it's like watching a game of football...it's the finals...ur team is 1 goal behind....10 secs remaining..and they make their final assualt..
U pray ur very best that they kick a goal...and when they fail...the siren sounds...the crowd goes wild...opposing fans screaming in joy...the noise is deafening...and supporters of the same team as yours are left to ponder, what it might have been....or it should have been...or it could have been..the endless possibilities...but the fact remains...

we were out of the tournament.

As i turned around...I find that mukki was thrown into the same situation as us on the other side of the hall..and also fell down in the same way as shinz...so hanabi's team is also outta the comp.

We then left the hall and proceeded outside to grab some air...some drinks..smoke, reflect on what happened...all of us patting shinz and telling him he was fucking da best we've ever seen and generally, just showing our appreciation for all the hard work he's done !

Generally, the feeling was low..not sad..but just disappointment....

We had no interest in who else was fighting..what was happening in the hall...

for abt the next 2 hrs or so..we were just out there talking...and really..didn't give a shit what was going on. In my own and Adam's own words : ' I cannot give a shit anymore...all the people I know are outta the tourney'.

And this was the answer I was looking for this morning.

At beat tribe..what I learnt was...if u're not playing..u're there to support. And believe me, there were more supporters than players by midday...Team who were kicked out early stayed to support their friends...and what u're outta friends to support...you don't really give a shit abt who wins n stuff anymore.

U just want to have a good rest...and just relax...and enjoy watching some good games...basically, like in any sport...a neutral fan.

But u damn well wished with every fibre in ur body that it was ur team that won...the bitter taste remains.

I won't go on to describe the final 8 matches...
except to say, this IS THE BEST FINALS i have ever watched...Not because I was there...but the quality of the matches were simply awesome.

In closing...I look back from when I first started VF, to the first time I ever got a copy of a BT cup tape...to DVD...to being there in person.

I look back to being in awe with kyasao's man skills..yoro's awesome yomi...shinz's amazing abilities...even more so after knowing them in person

I remember when I first started speaking to ppl like Andrew, Adam, stompy, pablo, Rich, Rich (nam), VF4 Akira Dave...

Esp in the case of Adam, Andrew and Rich Jones...the original trio whom I first got to know in TB days...Back then, when this site had no more than 500 members...
When rich williams was still active...I remember the days when it was IMPOSSIBLE to get a clip online...to the days of me going ' holy shit..I am running outta space for VF movies...' I remember all the other ppl I've met thru vfdc n in irc...

My memory is so freakish..I actually rememebr how we started our first conversations! (not all, but heck..some of it is still crystal clear!...my memory is really so freakish..even myke don't argue with me when it comes to memory work haha!)

I remember emailing and communicating with Owen abt the possibility of me attending MOAT 2001....I remember the first day I met Myke and how he made me love the game even more than I ever did..I remember feeling terrible that I had when I didn't get to say goodbye to the two daves that I met in Japan..both are still there keke!

I remember the days when we USED TO just talk abt organizing a VFDC Japan Trip...

I remember arriving in Tokyo...me n danny walking to dinner n me telling Danny ' hey we're having our first adventure together!'

Well, to all those that were there,
GUYS WE DID IT... WE FUCKING DID IT!!!!!

Well, that's the end of this chapter.

To every single guy I met on this trip...u all ROCK! Fuck VF skills, dans or whoever has the biggest dick!

I felt extremely lucky to have met u guys in Japan. Without you all, BT experience itself..would be limited to simply..watching the game and playing the game...and that itself..is simply criminal!

I thank every single one of you for making my 9 days to be absolutely priceless....

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Looking forward to the next one already.

Awesome thread SummAH! cant believe you have such a good memory, and can write so well. damn, we should ask you to be the editor of a VF magazine. (but there's gotta have a section on mini skirts and naked Russian Chicks!)
