On the 28th February, Sega announced 'Sega Fes', a Sega Festival held in Akihabara on April 14-15, 2018.

The 'Sega Fes' is meant to be a celebration of Sega, both old and new, and of particular interest is a 'surprise announcement' taking place during the event, that's 'unique to Sega' (apologies for the google translation):

    http://segafes.sega.jp

I take from this that there's a surprise announcement, tournaments and a live stream of the event.

Could this be something Virtua Fighter related? Consider first everything we went over in the JAEPO Speculation thread.

    Also worth noting they mention:

Tournaments - Perfectly suited to something like Virtua Fighter.

The event is Held in Akihabara - The spiritual home of Virtua Fighter, with the most populated Virtua Fighter Arcade being Club Sega Akihabara, where possibly the best players in the world convene on a regular basis.

    And...

Sega Fes 2016 saw AM2's previous game announced - AM2's Souls Reverse was announced at the last Sega Fes, held in 2016. Could they be making back to back reveals?

Considering this event is meant to be a celebration of 'Sega old and new' Virtua Fighter would certainly fit the description as one of Sega's enduring legacy franchises.

    EDIT:
It's worth noting that some games people suspected might be the 'Surprise Announcement'; Sonic Racing and a new Shining Force Spin-off have already been announced. In theory this excludes them from being the 'Surprise Announcement' at Sega Fes.

I'm not sure what you mean, because you just listed two arcade titles that don't have home console ports yet. Also Daytona 3, Sega World Driver's Championship and HotD don't have any news of home console ports.

I don't think it's fair to say Tekken 7's arcade period was 'testing'. Certainly they had location tests, but it was exclusive to arcades for about a year wasn't it?

Looking at the 3D fgs releases and such already tells you when VF6 is coming. The timing makes too much sense with Soul Calibur. They know people know it's being expected.

When Squaresoft made the first Final Fantasy it was called so because if it didnt sell it was meant to be literally their "Final" game. Now here we are on several years later with serval games into the series. Moral of the story: Final may not ever mean final.

It is perfectly fair to assume they didn't want to have the same launch SF5 had and let the game be tested in arcades for balance and feedback.

The point I was making is that these games are not going to get a console port.
      Daytona on PS4? Soul Reverse?
Does Sega think these games are good to release on console?
Soul Reverse is an arcade Dark Souls, why would it go to console? You can even see how barebones the game is.

Unless you're a sega fan(as we all are I suppose) Nobody is going to be playing Daytona on PS4 where you have Gran Turismo, besides you can already play it on PC not many people know the files are available out there since not many people care about it.

Virtua Fighter on console? That makes much more sense.
And Osaki spoke of, not one but many titles, so this leaves a lot to wish for.

Looks like at the very least, there will be a VF2 tournament this weekend.

That confirms it. VF2 is being re-released for 50th time. Let's get nuts.

Joking and sarcasm aside, high-level VF2 is always a blast to watch.

I WISH VF2 got re-released that many times. There's only the Saturn Port and the PS360 port that are any decent.

It would be great to see it released on PC or PS4.

Well I think having a VF2 tournament hypes up the possibility of VF6 being announced more so. I also hope we get a re-release of the first 4 or 5 games at least in arcade and vs. mode. Maybe like a collection.

By the way, does anyone know the exact time and day we should hear something? I know it's Sat the 14th and Sun the 15th in Japan time.

Don't forget also that Hori did visit Sega (special VF Fightstick?)

Yes there has been speculation before but nothing like this where the pieces of the puzzle fit together rather nicely.

Not sure on any times unfortunately. Just know the event is happening over the entire weekend.

That's right. I was going to post that on the front page, but the site was down for maintenance. It's a good sign, hopefully.

Good question, is it going to be streamed?

If it is announced, do you think we have to wait a while, as in an arcade version before the console version, hopefully not too long?

Yep, Suzuki wasnt even that involved in the VF5 series development, key people behind VF are still at Am2 ( Katagiri, Osaki, Kataoka...).

@def already posted this, but I wanted to chime in that VF being listed alongside two very active and important franchises bodes well for it!

VF6 was predicated by bstar from many moons ago!
