It's not a stupid question at all, everyone wants to know bro! [IMG]

There's no firm release date announced yet, however it's been said by Sega that FS is getting released "this summer"

Take that as you will, good case scenario would be early June.

Everyone who said something along the lines of "I would do anything to get R/FS" should not forget how they felt and support Sega. Honestly, the only exception is if your broke for money or something. That's just my viewpoint ofc.

I got no problem with supporting, but they can't rip people off- or people will just ignore the DLC.

I think it will be $5 per char max, with the bundle packs at half price or more, so folks who want to get everything will probably end up paying around $70

I would never pay $90, especially not for a digital game. Either way I don't see them going that high. Selling dlc for a much higher price than the core game is just bad business.

DLC works because you buy a game and then its cheap add-on. Can you see anyone buying a game for $15 and then spending another $60 on add ons?

Doesn't MS have a limit on how many dlc packs a game can have or something? That would make it impossible for sega to sell each character pack separately.

I think you have to think of it this way:
If VF5FS game was released as a disc - it would have likely cost $40-$60. Then they could charge $10-30 worth of DLC. It comes out the same, right?

Edit: Again we don't know the price of anything so its just better to wait and see.

The nice thing is you won't be. regardless of how the costs shake out the game will not be $90.

    $90 = about £55

Average RRP for a brand new game at retail is £40 - £50 over here, so that'd make the price for FS and all the DLC a bit higher than the average cost of a new retail game.

Not sure what the average price of games is for you US guys but if FS only costs around £40 - £50 over here then i'm well happy [IMG]

Yeah, but is what I was saying, you would be getting dlc that was cheaper than the game. Its a matter of perception.

I think it will be harder to convince people to buy dlc when it costs more than the product that will be using that dlc.

I'm still hoping for a $30-$40 range with all the dlc. It would cost the same as a budget hard copy which will make it easier for sega to sell it.

They can't just think of the hardcore fans who will pay whatever they ask, they need to price it right so they can get lots of new users. That is how you grow the brand.

I agree with your estimated price point for the DLC bundles. I also think it'll cost $40 total at most to buy all items for VF5FS.

I initially thought the core game would cost 30 bucks. But I'm fully convinced it'll be 20 bucks now that it's been confirmed to be classified as an Xbox Live Arcade game instead of a Microsoft Game on Demand.

I could see them releasing the dlc at 1 dollar per character with a super pack at 15 dollars

About the Discussion of 'DLC being more expensive than the actual thing' there are tons of cases, like Castlevania HD

I think Sega should push the items because they are a significant part of the game. If they had included all of the items with the game, they could claim to have the best character customization of any modern fighting game, and that'd probably be an accurate statement. The number and level of creativity of the items gives the game a lot of extra flair.

I wish there was a way for those without all items to at least see their opponents get-up, but the sheer number of different pieces might make that impossible; in total, the catalog of items may also represent too much work for Sega to just give them away. It is over 14,000+ items, that's just a huge amount; imo, even half that would still be a ridiculously large number of items. Is that basically ~1000 items per character?

So unbelievably psyched for this game to come out! Saw L_A kicking everyone's ass with Shun in that stream, he did VFDC proud.

It might come in several different packages like other games do it. Per-character or 2-3 to a pack/half cast/full cast. My guess is that pricing will be in line with how Capcom handles costume DLC or something.

We'll just have to wait and see. Either way, it's clearly a necessary evil to see the game released at all. After 5 years of no VF at all I'm surprised at the amount of worrying going on.

Shidosha has an interview in the PAX east thread that sheds a little more light on the DLC situation, sounds like there'll be 19 indivual packs (one for character) and some kind of bundle for those who want it all.

Frank also said the total cost of the game + DLC will be less than a disc based product.

Items are definitely a way to bring in new players. Every time I play VF with new people, they almost inevitably ask, "How can I dress my guy up like that?" I always see my friends playing a little more seriously after some customization. It no doubt forges an attachment between player and character, and certainly stuffs that "Virtua Fighter's characters are all so plain," argument where the Sun don't shine.

Regardless of DLC and anything else, this is very true.
