What a day! First of all, I have to thank everyone who came to the tournament making this event memorable. The turnout for VF almost outnumbered that for Tekken5. Can anyone believe that crap? =)

The unsung heroes that made the tourney 10X better were the Michigan VF players. They are a small group of friends who've been playing VF for a little longer than 1 year. To be honest, nobody hadn't heard about them before this tournament, so they came to us as a total suprise. Not only they have the skills that exceeded everyone's expectations, but also they definately have what it takes to get to the next level- enthusiasm, competitiveness, and dedication-, which really excited everyone there.

The tourney had two parts. We first had round robbins to allow everyone to play everyone once. Fortunately, we got a hold of two TVs by the Michigan players providing their TV(thank God), so the total of 125 matches could be finished in about 3 hours. Special thanks to Jerky and Dandy for helping me out running the tourney. I really appreciate that, guys.

Although, it took a while, everyone seemed to like the idea of R.R before the double elimination tournament. In the past, everytime I read gathering reports and saw the lines of "Oh, it was a bummer that I didn't get to play you at all in this gathering nor in casual", it reminded me of the fact that R.R. would of given them to have chances to play everyone. R.R also gives players a chance to set their strategies for the actual tournament based on what they saw or felt during the R.R prior to the actual tournament.

With the result of the R.R, we decided the seeds, and the bracket was set up. We used a gigantic projector screen for the tournament, and every footage has been recorded on a video tape. As far as how the tourney goes, I am not here to spoil anything until media gets uploaded, but everyone stepped up in the tourney with sheer amount of focus, making everyone really got into the tournament of our beloved VF.

Before I forget, I also have to thank Jason Kim(aka Jin_KR) for all the work he did for the tourney. Even though the main game of this event was GGXX, thanks to him, we had enough setups and the projector for the tourney, resulting in VF stealing the spotlite from other games. Knowing how often that kind of thing happens at a muti game tournament, I gotta tell you that that felt really freaking awesome. /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

    I love VF.

Awesome and inspiring stuff guys! Congrats to all players and organisers that made the event possible, and this is very inspiring to read. I can't wait to see some media, even if it is Evolution /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Quick Qs: how many players attended? Any chance of getting a bracket online?

    Hey hey, Adidas here.

It's the Lion player from MI (hopefully you remember^^), and I have a few things to say.

Ohio's game is strong. Knowledge is power in VF, and when Lion's unbelievably cheaty - [3][P]+[G] to [3_][P][P] {Buffer}[3][P][P] to [7_][8_][9_][P] was blocked with a quick backwards facing forward dash, I knew that I had encountered something formidable.

Perhaps I let my shock of having that blocked, (Since I do have lots and lots of setups from that move) take over my other setups. Perhaps after playing Maddy over and over gave the other Ohioans (sp?) a fantastic step up against our own akira player. Perhaps..... perhaps, we have found the next level... The next step. The link, possibly, between our current form and the next evolution.

    Well, what could I expect?

The game *IS* called Virtua Fighter 4 : EVOLUTION .

again, I must say. you guys got dah mad skillz y0.

Knowing about the Michigan players make me remember that.....

US IS TOO BIG FOR VF....

Anyways, it's good to see that people are still going at it in Evo even at a low time like this for US VF. This is what keeps me coming back. Good job, Ohio guys.

thanks for coming out everyone. I hope you all had a good time. Even though It was pretty stressfull running stuff, I still had a blast. I wish I could have entered VF, heh but im still only learning Punch Throw Jacky.

it was pretty funny to see Tekken players get mad when VF got put on the big screen.

    See everyone soon again sometime!

Whew! What a weekend. Some shout-outs are in order.

Firstly, thanks to Cbus's own SH_ for hosting everyone, and J1n for running the tournies and helping us run VF. I was glad that things never got too crowded at SH_'s and we always had enough setups to go around. And VF > Tekken on the bigscreen was just too poetic.

Big thanks EMX and Jerky for flying in to show us Ohioans some VF love! EMX, I wish I would've played you more instead of watching the tourney tape with Jerky, we only played during the round robins really. /versus/images/graemlins/confused.gif Jerky, great games, man. Between Maddy and you, the 1st half of this year has been vs Jacky boot camp for me!

Vith, you and your crew, you guys are hardcore, man! It was good to see you since I missed you last time, you are a real warrior for making the long drive out here!

And of course, "VF crew comes out of fucking nowhere~!" Michigan VF crew! You guys really saved the tourney! It was the most pleasant suprise we could ask for, finding new, real, dedicated VF players so close to here. Your knowledge of VF really impressed me, since it is very hard to get to that much knowledge without playing against more experienced players. We hope to see you guys again sometime soon...

Props to Maddy for taking me out in winners, your Akira still has the deadly yomi! Props to SH_ for taking me out in losers, you've really stepped up your game since the last six months. But make sure you keep training, next time it might not be so easy. /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif Our match and you vs Maddy were two of the best matches in the tournament.

Good times to the GGXX crew, you guys are fun to hang with, always glad to have you here.

Jacob and Avi, play more VF! And post more!

Hey, Alex here... Shingro/Shun just clocking in to say my part.

It was definately surprises for everyone, last time we went to an ohio tournament we swept the whole thing and took top 4 spots... this time suddenly we're fighting for our life against totally different styles then we're used to!

it's interesting too, because up here I consider everyone of us to have a "talent" that we have over our normal competition

    Matt (Deathpunch): raw skill/reflex/dedication
    Jannon(Adidas Jones): Strings/traps/data
Andy(AfF/Andy from Flint): Setups that *KILL HUMANS* (anyone see the 70%+ damage combo on me?)
    Alex(Shingro): doesn't play by the rules/mindgames

now all in all I don't really consider my talent to be at all... "consistent?" kinda like reversals... you have to *know* the person you're fighting or you *will* be killed (aoi knows what I'm talking about!) if you try it as primary... well... good luck. All these styles though definately show there's places for me to go that are just as viable as our rushdown crew =)

definately worth it to attend, (even after my no sleep 8 hour shift the next day) thanks to everyone but especially to jacky (my memory will not remember names =P) for giving me the confidence that my talent is still worthwhile in this game.

thanks to the others (you know who you are even if I don't) for telling me the fundamentals I missed in my climb

thanks for round robin to give me a chance to fight totally different styles across the board! (some people actually play "defensive" *Shock!*)

someday we should arrange some time to show you our alts, My vanessa has a trick or two and I don't think you have a vanessa player, Andy also has Goh and Matt's Brad and Pai is pretty ruthless too, between us all I think we hold the entire cast in our community =D

As for next time you'd better be careful, because you've really re-sparked our dedication to this game and I have 100% certaintly that Matt will be practicing huge amounts and Andy has already called saying that he'll be coming down to Brighton fairly often to get more solid practice in. As for myself, I'm going to make my Vanessa viable and on the way learn all those fundamentals I've missed. By the time I'm done I'm sure my Shun will be 3-0ing you all! Muahahaha!

    ....

    well... maybe =P

Anyway great to meet you all =) good to know the VF4 scene is alive and well in the midwest

Edit: I'm getting errors trying to upload my avatar, it's 80x80 and 6.80k any tricks I should know?

Sounds awesome. I am looking forward to playing you guys soon. I can use many different characters(all but Brad), so we can definately have some secondary character matches.

Heh, this kinda makes me smile cause you guys reminds so much of us back in the day when we started traveling around the country for VF. =) What can I say, I like this spirit!

When you guys want to come to a gathering of ours, make a post in the Ohio thread. As long as it's not too much of a short notice, chances are we will be playing VF for quite long. =)

    Cheers,

Hey EVERYBODY! Ok Dandy J, Look I'm POSTING.

Just wanted shout out everyone who was at the tourney. So many really great games. Provided the videos get encoded, I really will make the DVDs if people want me to. Especially wanted to thank the Michigan guys for playing VF and showing up. You guys are all really strong at VF and really fun to hang out with. Really looking forward to seeing you guys again. I gotta learn how to deal with some of these crazy mixups that I've never had to mess with before.

Also wanted to shout out to Jerky who was absolutely a great guy to hang out with. I'll hit you on AIM or something sometime and we'll see if we can't fix your HD loader stuff. You are a great dude and playing some Jacky other than Maddy was fun as hell. Hopefully I'll try and 2P a bit less.

Also, just for clarity, I'm the Aoi player in case anyone got confused.

    Nice angelfire avatar faggot.

I was ohio's resident Vanessa player, I'll have to bone up on her sometime so I can catch you michigan guys next time you come down. I definately wanna see what you can do with her.

Sounds like a good quality gathering was had, and about those matches: Tell me you guys saed them with real names this time instead of AAAAaa bBbbBB #####?

You already know we didn't. I'm planning on making video DVDs of them so don't worry about it. I think Jason's capping them this time so let him worry about it.
