You bring up a very valid point, and I fear you might be correct.
In theory a patch that adds the texture info, but does not unlock it for use would fix that. Then, when you download the new content, you actually just are downloading a digital key to grant you access to the customization options for those items.

I think that's how Capcom did it for Dead Rising.

How it would work if they decide to charge money for the DLC, is make it mandatory for everyone to upgrade their game if they play online. And to access the new items, you would have to pay. While others would have it on their box, but not be able to access it.

The easiest way to solve this is that they release a patch which people have to download when they go online containing all of the new items. So then it doesn't matter if they've bought the dlc or not, they will still have the textures available, they just can't use them themselves.

Yes, add them in a patch, and only way to unlock them is random item battles in ranked online play.

Well, that's great for VF vets and gives VF players extra insentive to plug away at the game - however it could also mean a scandal.

Put youself in the other position of a recreational player who will spent real cash monies on DLC only to be told, "oh it's only available when you play for another 10 or 15 hours", or "when you get 100% collection for that character", or worse "it's only available randomly" (meaning, you may never get to see what you paid for!).

I'm sure A LOT of average Xbox players will be furious about that. If they pay the cash, they wants the goods and they wants 'em NOW.

It's a bit of a mindfield this, because expectations are so different. I remember The Godfather game trilogy had a scandal that EA were charging real money for in-game money, or cheats. In a way, if VF DLC items go into the shop and need further in-game credits to unlock them (after spending REAL cash) it could be seen as a rip-off, but that's probably the best way - to add the DCL to the shop and them BUY them with the gold. That way, you still need to play to pay, and it reduces the chances of every player having that item as standard.

The ideal thing would probably be to release a free patch to allow thee new items to be obtained through VS online ranked matches. And in addition have some items as exclusive "paid for content".

Or just a thought - what about all DLC going to a special DLC page in the item shop? DLC items wouldn't have to be re-bought with in-game gold because they'd be unlocked already on this page. That way you just select the ones you want to move over to your costumes.

If I have to re-buy everything with digital VF5 money after paying for it with real money I am not going to be a happy camper, lol.

the work effort of obtaining 100% in Quest is too excessive.

Even for complitionists, it is too much.

I support a DLC fo complete unlocking of all items of all charactes, and I do not care about losing achievements or getting achievements blocked.

    Bring on the DLC

I don't. I like the achievements, and I'm not willing to sacrifice them. I don't see why it must be a "either, or" situation.

I'm pretty sure a lot of 360 players love the achievement system too.

Items in the game should be worked for in Quest mode, as intended - but DLC should be available for your character on purchase because you've already paid specifically for it.

Even thinking about making achievements blocked in this game through DLC will make this game the laughing stock of the achievement fanbase =\

in racing games, there comes the point when you reach 85% completion and then the game ramps up into insanity but you still want all the tracks and cars. Either downloading someone else's save file (PS3 is nice about copying other's save files) or via DLC.

As for VF5, spending 4 days in Quest and barely touching 25-30% of the opponents faced in each arcade........ the Quest for 100% completion is really really far away, just like those insane racing games.

So, DLC.. yes do it, it is good, I wish there was Pro-Action Replay or Game Genies for next gen consoles just to unlock all the items and gold.

In VF, you just don't play 1 character, you likely like 3-5 characters.. and the idea of repeating the process for ALL the characters is insane

    DLC is needed

I am not happy with the 360 Achievement system because it ties it to your account and blocks you from copying SAVE FILES like you could in other normal consoles.

Playstation 3 doesn't bog you with these authoritatian restrictions and you can download the Motorstorm or Ridgeracer 7 save files and have the caras and tracks all unlocked (not counting the add-ons, duh)

Achievements weigh in a more negative aspect of restriction on the console/game owner losing the freedom of transportaing their own save files without hauling around the entire Hard Drive.

The PSP is an excellent tool for hauling PS3 game saves to your friend's houses and make life easier.
