Imagine if there's Street Fighter X Virtua fighter

If i sounded rude or anything im sorry really. (English isn't my primary language )Im responding to a quote above my post and im not saying at all that you can't think of VF as the best game in your opinion for you own reasons. Hell its my personal favorite 3D fighter. ( Guilty gear being my favorite 2D ) What im saying is that labeling all cross over fighters casual is completely off the track. Saying all cross over fighters are just some enjoyable romp of colors and sounds as no depth as an argument. Just take 3S for exemple. Its a really great game but it turns off a whole lot of newcomers cause of comments like those. I do think that system wise VF is a hell of a fighting game series but not the only not casual one. Ive heard everywhere around here that ALL other games are nothing compared to VF. I also see other people trying to encourage community building which i think is a far better attitude to adopt. If you're not concerned about what im saying then dont feel concerned. Im talking about people having an elitist point of view. I just think that its wrong to place VF as a stand alone fighter. There is a lot of other fighters as good as VF for similar or different reasons. I also think that 2D isn't really comparable to 3D. Which is why i have a favorite 2D fighter and a favorite 3D also.

Again sorry if i offended anyone. I really like VF and im putting a lot of work to expose it in my community which really likes fighters but is mostly into 2D games. Im just saying my two cents about how some people here see VF as the only respectable game which in my opinion isnt gonna help to make the VF community evolve.

SSF IV even tough its kind of a simple game has success because of people being open minded about other games or newcomers from other games. I often talk about VF with them sharing my knowledge about how the game works. I just think that if we want the game we all like to keep living we have to act in a way that helps the community grow.

 

In SxV, you have +8 advantage on Ryu, what do you do?

P.S. And because Dragon Punches spin, should they be considered circular attacks?

 

Well when they do a shoryuken they spin on one side and after you give your back the active frames are gone so i guess it would be a semi circular attack.

In fact if you have +8 you can keep attacking since normals in 2D games ( were talking about sf x VF and not the opposite) have a lot less than 8 frames before activation which means on hit you can link about anything and on block you can keep pressuring with true blockstrings.

LIke i said i also think so. At least in the 3D department. But 2D games play in a totally different way. Its really not the same mindset. In general i think that 2D as more fierce competition ( 3rd strike, Guilty gear, GMOW or Garou if you prefer, im also curious about KOF XII) In the 3D department i think that VF really stands out for my tastes but i also really like Tekken and Soul Calibur. DOA im less into it. Too much leniant time and frame wise. ITs kinda slow in that department. But i honestly think that a few tweak would make DOA a really fine game.

 

I have not played a single cross over title that had the same depth as say 3S or VF. That's not to say they are "meh" or "tut" or any other monosyllabic expression that you can think off. Those games are great for fun and great as a visual and audio stimulation.

I like my fighting games hardcore really hardcore, down to the last recovery frame. THIS is why I pay only a passing glance at cross over titles, and hope that VF does not fall into the trap of "casual fighting games are popular at the moment lets jump on the bandwagon" style of thinking.

In general, it seems that would be correct... But I thought Capcom vs SNK 2 was pretty good (though not my main game nor was I any good at it).

From my understanding, the effect of roll-cancels in the game didn't create a skill-ceiling as most people seem to feel, but an entry-barrier before top level play (meaning a lot of would-be good players got stuck at the point of the game where roll-cancels stopped them in their tracks, but the game's "depth" actually went beyond that--sorta like fuzzy guard can jam up someone at intermediate level in VF though not as drastic as what happened in CvS2).

I won't count King of Fighters as a crossover game, since that's within house (that would be like calling Marvel vs. Capcom 2 a crossover--technically true, but we're not applying that context here).

At the end of the day, I think there's a lot of ways to think of depth and it's used as a catch-all phrase. The depth I personally care about is are the layered depths of enjoyment--and yeah, VF gives me that in droves. I enjoy the game against all levels of players, but the enjoyment increases greatly with better opponents--even if I'm getting destroyed. What keeps me in there is a sense of fairness within that, and a sense that there are times when I can play my cards right, even against players so much better than me--and it would still be fair ^_^

A lot of freedom in the Virtua Fighter games too! I have not yet been able to enjoy that amount of freedom in other fighters though, personally (though Third Strike comes close, unless I'm fighting a Yun I guess lol).

P.S. Well... I think VF lowered the intermediate/advanced barrier with VF5 when compared to where the later VF4 games were. In that sense, they made the game technically more "casual friendly" but it still had mindgames and still had layers of depth. There's still a high skill-ceiling, though arguably that was lowered with VF5 FS. The mindgames are still the core, and the higher damage makes the risks greater though, so there's merit to that being argued on both sides as either "more for the masses" or "more for the hardcore." The hardcore punish harder... but they can't sit on a lead as much as they used to. I guess it's more a matter of aggressive vs. defensive... That said, I love where the game seems to be in FS--but given explanations by others (such as Shou), I think I can relate to their *sighs* when they feel they're not as rewarded in hardcore depth like they were in VF4 Final Tuned or even VF4 Evolution. They got to feel a very special part of the game that they feel is just no longer there or is barely there if at all.

 

Having VF in a cross over title does not lower VF since it won't be VF. FS lowered the VF standard IMO still i do think that its a necessity for a dying game that scares a lot people due to its reputation of being a really complex game based almost solely on mechanics rather than flash and mechanics. I do agree with cross over fighters having less depth. ( except CvS2 like Chanchai said. ) I just dont agree on the idea that VF is ,unlike other games, above cross over titles. I think its just totally unrelated since it wont be VF. Having variety is never a bad thing in my opinion. Street Fighter X Tekken doesnt ressemble Street Fighter nor Tekken at all ( besides the character roster ) And so is MVC3. Anyways like i said i meant no offense ^_^

K-groove was pretty good in CvS2 iirc?

Really the problem with crossovers isn't anything inherent to them. If VF got used in a crossover though I'd much prefer to see new mechanics than some kind of recooked tepid crap like the latest games are.

 

I too want to suport the notion that K-groove is considered tournament worthy, at least here in France where Yamazaki93 has dominatd many a tournament with it.

 

K-groove is dope, point blank period... There are a few issues with it though... You have to have good yomi vs certain characters like A-Sakura. She can definitely open you up if you don't know how to just defend on reaction. Her A-groove combo can be used in a rushdown method to break the guard and have enough meter to do some decent damage, especially if she's a ratio 2.

I personally love the K-groove, as it helps make certain weaker characters perform better in most cases. Throws become way stronger, as well as some combos. Just defending is easier than P-groove parrying in this game as well...

It wasn't the roll cancels that made CvS2 less solid... It was the unbalancing of characters that did it. How many SNK characters got use other than Iori, Kyo, and Hikari??? I felt like I was the only Raiden and Rock player. Sure, there were maybe a few Kim players here and there, but they only played for the infinite most times. All the other major tourney players, or even casuals, rocked Capcom chars all day. Even Dan got more love than characters like Benimaru, who still had carried over some great SNK properties like his jumping B (which was jumping short).

Chang was another character that while he was very unique in having to control 2 characters, he was still weak and took a ton of time to truly master.

Also, I say whatever to the haters, I used S-groove, too!!!

I fiddle with a lot of characters in the game but my main team is Rugal, Yamazaki, Geese. (TEAM BOSS!) I played them in a tourney just 2 days ago.

The VF development team is shrouded in mystery nobody knows who they are.

 

I think it would benefit them to take exemple from capcom in how to make games that sell. You can have a serious and technical aspect in a game and still put in some more casual and brainless fun. IN 2011 it is a must if you want your franchise to survive.

 

Because I suck at SF.
