I assure you it's not going to the junk mail folder. I've already asked the same question to friends at sega japan.

This might be a bit off-topic...but it relates to trying to keep the R dream alive:

Friend of mine spotted a post (with pictures etc.) where someone had bought a Lindbergh board, joined it with his PC, added the VF5R ROM and some Linux OS, and had VF5 R running in the convenience of his own home (o_O?
The links to the post are unfortunately broken so no luck checking it out...

Well...I think that my good hearted friend might have just stumbled over LA_Akira's pics of his epic Lindbergh-looking cabinet and just got too excited /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Ahh...tsk tsk, LA...you and your misleading cabinet

But anyways does anyone think that anything like that is remotely possible?

If they made an official announcement, I'm sure I'd wait that long just to have my hands on VF5R. Like I said before, just have faith in Sega. 'Don't stop believing' that R will come out on any console. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Stay positive dammit!

You know what would be funny? If SEGA pulled a Capcom on us and announced VF5R... for the Wii. (kinda like Tatsunoko vs Capcom)

I do think if Sega survives ahem...
the next VF they release for the console is going to have
everything (almost everything) we've been asking for.

My flipped out reasoning is telling me that its taken so long
for Sega to release the second console game because they've
been researching how to put together the ultimate online fighting
experience for both 360 and PS3 (cough...)

And how to get the most out of the PS3 hardware and how to add a
legitimate DLC type model to VF. They know once they release this next version for consoles that will be it for a while....
So I think they're taking all this time to get it right.

When the next console version of VF comes out, we'll all be
    satisfied and pleasantly surprised /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Of course... that's if Sega survives /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif

Tbh I think they are waiting for ver. B or C to come out in the arcades first. But hopefully they are also considering all other things you said, masterpo!

How is Sega in a do or die situation? Do you think they have not much money yet?

Money can't be eaten, but it's is floating away in a river in s**t, I agree; and most companies, not just Sega, not just the video game industry, are in the river.

When they're finished with VF5R, they can put the ultimate online fighting experience on hold (or finetune) until they have the ultimate marketing, then comes the ultimate audience. But the audience currently don't want to part their cash on an unknown, and prejudicely s**t, kung fu game some have never heard of. As in; currently, how do they get the cash for VF5R, in the first place? You see, more of them can't.

But there will be a time when they can. It is nothing new.

Sega will survive. They're using Sonic as a cashcow to feed it, just like 1991, so it doesn't starve to death. Except I don't like the BGMs on the more recent games.

Global Financial Crisis, Bull S**t Crisis! And if VF5R doesn't come out of the womb, we can play it on MAME in 10-15 years /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

I think the gaming industry isnt the type to be hurt too bad by a "global financial crisis". At least not as much as other industries.

The current state of Midway would be in opposistion to that statement, but keep in mind that Midway was in trouble LONG before the crisis.

Its a bad time to have investments. A lot of companies may be pulling their outside investments right now, which does make them look poorer on paper. Its really just a loss of a bad asset though, so most of them will have just as much spending capital as before.

This might have been acceptable for VF4 and EVO but not for VF5 and 5R.

PS3 and 360 have HDD and online compatibility and games can be patched very easily.

    no, no...... and no.

I don't think they want to bother releasing patches over and over. Most developers don't.

Unless you're willing to pay for each patch. Then they'll do it gladly (and from a business standpoint, it makes sense).

I actually believe in a VF5:R release within the next year just based on the success SF4 has seen. Like it or not, SF4 is really helping revitalize the fighting game genre a bit (or a lot, depending on who you talk to) and I can deffnitely see SEGA trying to capitalize on this opportunity. If you think about it, they've already got the development (other than tuning) done on the actual game itself...it's basically just gotta be ported over to the consoles and have little things added to beef and freshen up the quest mode and re-add some of the things they went away from since EVO that we want back in there. They can look to release more item packs and possibly even patch version releases as things get tuned. I really do think it's just a matter of time, now, since I'm sure the success of SF4 isn't going completely blind to them. Hitching a good marketing train to R and having it release 6 months or so from now, maybe, would be the perfect time to catch some of the new fighting game fans wanting more after the luster has weared off of SF4. At least, that's my hope.

I'd easily pay for the new revisions, items etc...

Who else would pay for stuff like this?

VF5R - game revision ver B to, say, ver C - I'd pay for that.
Items packs - I'd pay for those, too.

    Matt and Plague already.

Yeah Plague that's what I was thinking of, paying for a new revision and items would be worth it for me. Not sure if there's anything else i'd be willing to pay for though.

They could make some serious cash out of us if they got their act together /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
