Oh, I would pay for version updates and item packs in a heartbeat...

Really? I'd gladly pay for updates too, but I've seen SOOOOOOOOOO many people on various forums bitching about having to pay for content just like that.

I remember when Oblivion came out, people were talking about boycotting Bethesda (even making death threats) because of the DLC.

But yea, I'd so gladly pay for any kind of VF update. Hell, I even paid for the themes and gamer pics, and I don't use them!

I agree. The VF5R cup is half empty, not half full.

No Tony, the cup is neither of those! The Cup is too fucking big, it should be half that size, so it would be full /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Going by this analogy would mean that it's not whether 5R hits the consoles or not, it's wheter we enjoy VF5 or any other VF despite that. And I do, even though I only have a PS3 ver., I love it! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I won't pay to have access to stuff on the disc I just bought. In my opinion it's a scam.

A scam is playing the game in the arcades as much as you have to in order to get the really cool items. Paying a few dollars for the same stuff at home without having to shell out hundreds of dollars in the arcade for the same stuff seems like more of a deal to me. The same stuff goes for Street Fighter 4 DLC.

Paying for items and such? Sure. I won't, but I don't mind if they decide to sell it.
Paying for revisions (update from ver. B to C)? No fucking way. In fact, I would sell my game if they asked me that. You gotta be a real sucker to swallow that one without any complaints.

Well it would cost them money to develop and release the revisions, so it makes sense to charge for them.

Straight up! I don't know what costs are on the Xbox 360 side, but on the PS3 side I'm paying $59.99 for the game, that's enough! you add the strategy guide to it and tax and you're droppin close to a C note.

I don't want to have to pay extra for any patches, DLC, or anything else. If they want to release a new version of the game, then I'll pay another $59.99. But later for the nickle and dime-in. If they start charging for DLC and patches, then lower
the base price of the game to: $19.99 or $29.99.

Its bad enough the next gen games tend to be shorter and have less content. Then add to that they cost more. PS2 brand new
    $29.99, PS3 brand new $59.99. PS2 average gameplay 10-15 hours, PS3 average game play 7 hours.

So you gonna give me less game, charge me a higher price, and then make me pay for DLC and Patches F!@# dat /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif

I heard the Xbox live people have to pay to be online too. Is that true /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

I'll play some serious VF, But I aint tryN to get pimped

So because it's already on the disc, you feel like you are entitled to it? There are already many FREE items already on the disc that aren't DLC. I think it was generous enough for those items to not cost a single cent so let the hardcore fans download the DLC if you dont want to.

Its the same idea as xp 2003 server or countless 3d programs I use for a living. One compositing package called nuke I paid $7,000 for and have to pay $1,000 every year just to keep my license for the software along with the most recent update. Sure, I make money with this but i'm paying $1,000 every year, not $3 dollars one time. There is a huge difference.

DLC is as simple as if you don't like it, don't buy it. Just like if you don't like a game, don't play or buy it. The sad fact of the matter is VF isnt a popular game and probably never will be due to many circumstances. Knowing this, one of the options sega is considering for possible future releases of the series is trying to get VF to be successful through DLC just like idolmaster did. Idolmaster sold about 10,000 copies but through the amount of DLC that the hardcore fans bought, it paid for the development cost of a game that can only sell an incredibly low volume. More than anything, the release of idolmaster made some hardcore fans VERY happy. Many VFers are in the same boat.

I look at DLC as not for the casual player but for the hardcore fan. Me, Myke, rod, denkai, adam, plague, flash, etc im sure would happily buy some of this stuff to support the franchise we love and help assure future releases.

To be fair, you can't call it DLC, when it's already on the disc. You are paying to unlock content that you've in fact already purchased. This would be the equivalent of you buying a music album from an artist but then having to pay additional money to 'unlock' the last two tracks on the CD even though the data is already on the disc.

The way that Konami does DLC with Metal Gear Online is much more fair for the consumer. They hire teams to create additional stages, characters, and items for the online mode well after the game has come out. Once the additional content is completed, they bundle it in a patch, that all Metal Gear Online players must download when they log in to the game.

Now, even though you have downloaded the content, you have to pay to unlock it. You pay for the extra work that Konami did. And if you are facing someone in a match that didn't pay for the extra stuff, they will still see you're wearing new costumes and items even though they haven't paid to use them because the items have been downloaded to everyone's console.

But if we paid for the VF5 disc with the content already on it, have we not paid for the content already? Now we have to pay an additional fee to unlock it? There are far better ways to make money off of the VF license.

Look at the VSHG. If they still sold those new I would keep purchasing them. But they don't. With the demand for sticks at all time high right now the VSHG would sell tremendously well. Even MarkMan said his favorite stick is the VSHG. Sega meanwhile focuses on arcades (that they had to close 110 of) and ignores a piece of hardware that would have netted them extraordinary amounts of money. The VSHG retail was 2.5x as cheap as the Fightstick TE retail. Sega could still be turning profits if they put out another VSHG. Hopefully we get the VSHG-R or something.

But the point is that we already purchased the DLC because it's on the disc. We bought the data, it's on the disc, but we are not allowed to use it? Terrible treatment of the consumers. Imagine having to unlock the special features section of a DVD you purchase? Or having to pay for extra fonts for your text editing software? You would not be thrilled at all.

And yes, I downloaded all of the extra costumes from XBL market, because I love VF and good fighting games in general.

Obviously people who do creative work should be compensated. (*edit* I don't think it really matters if they are compensated at the time the content is delivered versus at the time the content is created. Unlock codes save bandwidth, end of story.)

However, one of the most important copyright exceptions (first sale doctrine) is tied to ownership of physical copies; you lose that protection once you start buying services instead of products.

Do we really want to live in a world where corporate service contracts, instead of the law, govern what we can do with ideas and expression?

I'm personally a big fan of libraries, and rentals, and lending media among friends. I'd hate to see all of that disappear.

Which do you think is more logical?

    1. To create all the content and bug test the entire thing at once.

    2. To do it after the fact and risk ruining something in the game that was already bug tested before the extra content.

For all you guys know, konami could have created all the content at once and simply distributed it as DLC just to keep people quiet. What would you think if I told you the DLC for MGS was created and bug tested at the same time as the game but taken out just to be repackaged as DLC. Does that make you happier than it being on the disc?

BTW, we saw what happened what happened to the VSHG. Many units were recalled due to malfunction and not enough bug testing. Suppose a certain DLC created after the fact might cause your game to malfunction. How much extra dev money would this cost to fix? Would it be worth it to do for a game that doesn't sell many copies? Even so, a company would be obligated to fix something thats broken no matter how much extra it costs.

Again, if you don't like it, don't buy it. You have your opinion, I have mine. Done arguing on VFDC. Cya...

Bitching about paying for content that's already on the disc wont make game developers stop charging for extra content. Instead game developers will simply put less on the disc and charge for the content they would of put on the disc like no one's the wiser. But hey as long as its not on the disc then I suppose its ok right?. It's also silly to argue when people use weak analogies to prove their point. People buy VF for the fighting I sure as hell didn't spend 60 bucks really caring for the items so why would you make a comparison about a MUSIC album not including the Tracks..the only thing you can get from a music album is tracks and nothing else so it wouldn't be extra content you be paying for it would be the core content.
