Good post Spotlite. Thanks for your insight.

Me and Jedi are going to be there no matter what. Both of us do not care if we play, have to play through in qualifiers or not play at all. As long as we get to experience the Beat Tribe cup. Jedi and I are also going there to get good first hand experience on the little things to make fsb2 run smoother. If anyone wants to be on our team for qualifiers if we are given the chance to play, let me know. I am all for qualifying if that's how it's going to be for northamerica. It's more fun that way imo. So no complaints from me and Jedi here. Looking forward to seeing everyone who is going there.

i agree with spotlite 100%. as far as yamagishi goes, he would probably love to have every foreign team who can come be in the tournament, but you do have to realize that the local scene here is very intense. there are three or four point ranking tournaments a WEEK here, and the big tourney in march is going to be open to only those who have gained enough points to participate.

what's more, i know it sounds silly, but the japanese players are FUCKIN GOOD. i went with kaminari oyaji to a few tourneys last spring and we got our asses wiped by guys who were basically giving us half of the first round to test us, and then wiping the plate off in a matter of seconds. i now have tons of high level experience, and i have only made it to the second round twice in probably ten tournaments (be it 1on1 or 3on3). all in all, it sounds really shitty, but you might just be better off anticipating an amazing VF experience where you might not get to play against all the guys you have always wanted to.

i dont think everyone should necessarily put all their emotional investment into the tournament itself. hardcore vf players play every day pretty much, and if you want to play against them on other days as well, just give me a PM and ill do what i can to arrange a meeting. just last nite at nishi sport there was a session with all the Haos from the home version as well as many other high level players (ohnuki, kohu megane, rarita, and many others). i know most of those cats now, and most of them are interested in playing foreign players anyhow. the scene is about much more than the tournaments.

Great posts and it makes me feel a hell of a lot more comfortable. I look forward to seeing you guys there, but one question...Where is it going to be at? Address? Date? Time?... What date should we
(team socal) arrive?. Thx again - Brian

i talked to some of my boys and it is NOT going to be held at beat tribe. apparently they have it at the same place every year, which is about the size of a concert hall (there are two hundred teams at five people a team, which means one thousand people) that is usually less than half full. ill try and get specific details tomorrow or so. from what i have gathered, the qualifying for foreign teams is going to be held as foreigner-on-foreigner qualifyings, with a few spots in the tournament open for foriegn teams.

i like this idea for many reasons, perhaps most of which is the fact that many people will not be able to speak japanese but will be able to meet people from all over who are VF freaks. and of course the chance to play against legends is always exciting. i remember the first time i played against some of those guys and it truly was intimidating just to think that they were on the other side of the cabinet. and believe it or not, there are many japanese players who are very interested in playing against you. in a country where so much from the outside is adapted and borrowed in their daily lives, the fact that other people are watching them with such interest is a real thrill to many VFers.

i cant speak for everyone, but if you want a chance to get in some intense experience that and meet some kick ass VFers (and some pretty cool cats on top of it), then this is a great opportunity. hope to see you there

from what my boys say, the tournament is going to be held here:

    http://www.differ.co.jp/

for those of you who do not read japanese, it is located off of the rinkai-sen, which stops at ikebukuro, shinjuku, shibuya, shinagawa seaside, and shinkiba (as well as a few other small areas). if you are taking the train from ikebukuro, i would assume it would take you about a half hour... the place is fuckin huge, as it hosts events such as kickboxing matches and wrestling events. only fitting that we would rumble there

as far as sleeping arrangements go, i have some friends checking on that too. hotels near the tournament are looking quite expensive, but as the place can be reaches on the rinkai (and is thus also rather convenient as its not too far from any of the stops on the yamanote line (which runs a circle around the main areas of tokyo). if i can get some peoples budgets we can do what we can to find you guys cheap accommodations

Hello all, this is Ryan Hart from the UK.

Not that anyone cares but I just wanted to let everyone know that I will be arriving in Japan on the 12th March and will be there until the 25th March for the beat tribe event. For regular matches I will play mainly at Nishi Sportsland in Shinjuku if anyone wants to challenge. Otherwise I will play in Shibuya High Tech Land or Ikebukuro Gigo or Akihabara High Tech Land. If anyone wants to meet up just to hang out and have a laugh then send me a PM.

Ok see you all and good luck over there.

On VF they are savages...for real! /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

    Housing Update:

For those that are confirmed and DON'T have housing yet, Kazu can get us pretty cheap housing through a connection of his in Tokyo. It will come to about $30 per person per night. From what i hear, there is no curfew! Most importantly, this place is in Shinjuku!

It would be "hella" fun if all of us gaijin stay at the same location. We can all hang out and go to the arcades together, get some food, etc...

Reply here if you or your crew would like to take advantage of this option.

Again, those who haven't done so already, for housing purposes, I need to know exactly when you expect to arrive and leave Tokyo.

Also, you must tell me who is staying with who in each room (exact number). Regardless of how many people in the room, please remember it is about $30 per person/per night.

Send me this information as soon as possible, so Kazu can go ahead and take care of business.

    I am so sorry....

Kazu thought he was certain, but it appears that there was a misunderstanding between him and his contact in Tokyo. Basically, there is no deal! /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

He would like me to apologize on his behalf - he feels really bad. It looks as though we are all in the same boat. Anyone else know of any good housing deals in Tokyo /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

    FUK....
