    Second Day Report:

So on the second day the plan was to wake up and meet stomp and crew at their hotel for breakfast. My train stop was minami senju, they were at minowa (I think...), so I was gonna get on the train, get off at minowa, and follow stomp's instructions to find the hotel. Easy enough right?

So I get on the train, get to minowa, get off. I go looking for a mcdonalds next to a convience store but can't find it. So I just pick a direction and start walking.

After maybe 10 minutes I find a map and find out I'm walking totally in the wrong direction, so I turn around. Then I go too far in the other direction. And it starts to rain.

By now it's been like 40 minutes, so I find a convience store with a street sign nearby, break down and call the place for directions. The place was near (or on) meiji avenue, and I call and say "I see a sign for route 305 or 306" (whatever one it was) and the dude was like "I dunno where you are." Of course 305 WAS Meiji Dori. Bah /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif.

So anyways I start wandering aimlessly again, then finally find this big street which I follow and get to the McDs next to the convience store. I call again and thank god stomp was there and heard me call, so he said he'd meet me there and I waited.

Then I wait for like 10 minutes and I see some dude accross the street wave at me so I go over to meet him and it's some japanese dude who starts speaking english and is like "come this way" and I follow him and I'm like "where are we going?" and he's like "to my work..." and I'm like really confused, like is this dude from the hotel? And I'm like "... do I know you?" and he's like "are you Russian?" and I'm like "no" and he thought I was someone else. It was pretty funny.

But then I went back to McDs, waited, and soon I found stomp and company! All in all I was wandering for well over an hour and a half in the rain in some city in Japan I had no idea where I was. It really sucked.

And to top it off, once I got to their hotel, they asked, and it turned out my hotel was only 4 minutes walking distance from theirs, on the same street! /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif stupid, stupid me. But it's all good cause I got to eat. more later...

    Ryan Hart's report

Hi All, Ryan here, has anyone taken a look at this

    http://localstar.power.ne.jp/6thbtcup.html

This is soooooo stupid and dumb. What was the point of Adam flying all the way from America? What was the point of me flying all the way from the UK? Also in a way what was the point of Shinz flying in from Korea too? We all went to that tournament as a TEAM. TEAM is the key word here folks, why become a team if you can't play as a team. We played a total of two teams(the two teams that were in our group). We one against one, and lost against one. But then we were suddenly forced to choose only one member of the team to go ahead and play one on one knockouts with the other team representatives. Even Kyasao did not know of this rule until the very moment. What kind of organisation is that? Besides, how can you call it a team tournament if only one member plays for like 75% of the teams effort? The reason we were strong is because we are good as a unit, not because there is just one of us who is way better than everybody else. That is silly. Does anyone really think that Shinz is better than Heruru,me,Kyasao and Adam all put together??? Impossible! That's a dumb rule for such a big event that people (including other Japanese participants) travelled tons of miles for. What if that Ohsu team had had to play that system? Do you think they can't lose a game? Of course they can. Danny (SIngapore Akira Player) absolutely annihlated Minami Akira in front of my very eyes. Minami knew he got battered too, cos after that he got straight off the machine and didn't challenge again even no nobody was waiting or anything. He knew. What if that had been in the tournament, and that team had selected Minami as the representative? That would have been that whole Monsterous team eliminated, and why? Because some guy just beat one of the them? One game? Plain stupid if you ask me. As far as I'm concerned the organisers know that that was a stupid rule but I think they did it because they were scared of time running out and stuff. It finished really really late as it was. I just really hate that I only lost once and then had to watch in horror as poor Shinz had to bear the weight of the whole team. That's not fair, thats just luck. It might have just been that the other team fortunately selected the candidate that happens to beat the style of the other candidate. But that does not mean that the team is better than the other team. Chibita is only one person, I think we'd have taken with another member, or maybe Shinz would have beat him if he didn't have so much pressure. Chibita has these events all the time and in Japan there are millions of strong Akira players so Chibita already had the upper hand. But for crying out loud at least let us get a shot as well.

From what I remember, Shinz beat 2 or 3 people from the first team, then I beat the last guy. Then I beat the first guy from the next team, then lost. So already thats like a 3-1 record for Shinz and a 2-1 record for me. I remember Kyasao beat 1 or 2 people and Heruru beat someone and Adam beat someone. How the hell is that a losing team????? Can someone please tell me????? Even after that, In the one on one section Shinz totally cremated the 3 team representatives before finally losing the finals to Chibita. We all had to sit there and just hope. I didn't switch on my PS2 to go to Japan and hope. I didn't rank up in Japan and spend loads of money learning characters to go there and hope. I went there to play and WIN. I've never before been to a tournament and seen a tournament that had groups of 3 teams and then one on one playoff and believe me, I've been to many tournaments!!! Since when did that system come about? I must have missed a few or something. Been hiding in a cave too long I guess /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Anywaym now that the moaning and groaning is all done. I would just like to say that it was a great pleasure to have teamed up with so many vf greats. I had amazing fun meeting everyone. Big up to Akebono,Summah,Danny,Adam,Jerky(Mr. I don't know what to do after blocking Jacky's ss+p+k+g when it's for the match and let Ryan come back and win guy :p),Namflow,Heruru,Kyasao,Shinz,POS Akira,Stomp and everyone else that I met out there. It was great fun, sorry I couldn't eat that night Summah, I had to get back. I wanna come and see you all in your home towns one day!!!
/versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif Big Smile you all, and practice hard cos the next tournament is always just around the corner!

Seeya folks, I will write again.

    Peace

I just wanna say that I didnt know this was not standard practice. To put anyone through the torture of that vf gauntlet is horrible. You could see the weight just pushing down on all players, including chibita.

But Shinz did marvelous and losing to chibita aint a bum rap.

Ryan glad you made it back ok. Good to hear from you. Remeber homie the doors of florida are always open. Come visit.

Nice to hear all of the reports. My curiosity lies towards analysis and observation of the big name players that are overseas. Were there any showdowns? Was YORO vs HAIJIN really the best bout? Did the big names live up to their reputations - which ones do and which ones don't? Did you (RH) matchup against ShinZ in any games - and if so, what's the verdict? Anyone else? After a few days of playing, who would you consider the best overall player? etc. I know that this wasn't all about who the best player of team was, but these are just some of the questions that remain in my curiosity. Most of the other non-VF questions and stories are very fulfilling as well. Again, thanks for the reviews!

As you can see the number of my posts, I don't spam. If I offended you or anyone else by my curiosity, please forgive me. I wouldn't mind hearing an explanation as to why you would consider the post "gay" though. Perhaps you can enlighten me.

If I stepped out of bounds by asking about matchups and the different personalities that we hear about via video and msg board, again, please forgive me. Not only am I a casual player, but an enthusiast. Therefore I enjoy hearing of these types of things. I don't expect everyone on here to have the same interest.

Again, if my curiosities were offensive to you or anyone else, please simply ignore them. Thanks in advance. Otherwise, I look forward to reading first hand experiences -- something I'll probably never get to do.

Also thanks to Akebono for putting up the pics. Btw, that woman in image 296 is HOT.

Ryan, I know I wasn't there but I feel compelled to reply....

Dude, I honestly don't know what you were expecting. From very early on in this thread, it was quite clear that anyone travelling abroad to attend this event should not go with high expectations. There's a world of difference between being welcomed and being invited. As far as I could tell, only one international team was welcomed into the tournament. The others had to work like any other local team there.

What's even more surprising is that Srider even the event schedule in this very thread well in advance of the event. Furthermore, you're fluent in Japanese for cryin' out loud, so you have no excuse not to have known how things were going down since it was all spelt out on the VFR site. Claiming the whole thing was "soooooo stupid and dumb" comes across as sour grapes and a tad immature, and I know you're better than that dude.

It's obvious the wild card format was the way it was in order to save time. Hell, you even said it finished late as it was, can you imagine if they played the entire teams during the wild card round? That's effectively 20 teams in total, and if you work out the worst case scenario, you have to account for a possible 20 x 9 = 180 matches maximum. Let's say the two halves can run concurrently, which brings it down to 90 matches, but at an average of 5 minutes per match = 450 minutes = 7.5 hours! Would adding an extra 7.5 hours (theoretical maximum) have been practical?

I've been hearing great accounts and reports of people's experiences there, and I would have killed to have gone myself had I not been posted to Montreal at the exact same time. It just strikes me as odd that your post is so negative sounding.

    There's more to just winning.

There's more than travelling just to play 3 matches in the tournament :p

If they knew it was going to be long why not just span it over two days ah well.

Sounds like everyone had a blast in the Mecca of VF /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
