i was just wondering...how many people can pull off akira's infamous combos using a controller

yeh I would like to know too,
when I used to use a pad i could do standard combos even spod but the faster input combos usually involving byakko just seemed impossible.

Quite frankly, if people want to use Akira properly in VF I would always suggest they pick up a stick and learn to play on it.

I've played and seen pad players who can do things like DLC and SPoD very successfully (without button binding too) but I've never seen a player execute combos like

    yoho P knee dbpm

on a pad. I'm not saying it's impossible, just that I've never seen it. Even for stick players this example combo can be hard but I'd wager money that a stick player could pull this off more times than a pad player if the two were of equal skill and had equally good inputs.

IMHO players who use a pad and play Akira can only reach a certain level with him...I personally think it's a self-handicap. Modified dbpms are so essential for even basic Akira combos I don't see what redeeming features a pad can hold over a good stick.

If pad is your only possible option then he's still use-able by all means but you will generally fail to reach the damage potential that max damage combos allow you.

Besides if you play on a stick at home or sessions, you'll always be able to play in an arcade too.

There used to be a fair few well known pad playing Akira's online here but as far as I know, quite a few of them have since switched to stick.

I used to play Akira on a pad and could do everything except consistent SPoDs (the input always seems a lot slower than everything else).

However LM_Akira is right and it is just a handicap. The d-pad is a lot slower than a stick. On the pad you can't really do anything complicated on reaction, you have to be completely prepared for it. Also movement is alot more sluggish, you have to input all your dashes and evade cancels a lot sooner than on a stick (I don't know why it just feels that way) as well as having to input defensive techniques sooner after getting a move guarded for example (which gives you less time to hit-check) and the amount of time you'll have to put into training on a pad just to reach a good level (it took me SUCH a long time to be able to do double palms in combos) isn't worth it when you'll always be handicapped. May as well just get a stick from the start and train on that. People say it all the time but it really is the best advice and I played on a pad (stubbornly) for years before I switched.

    Just my 2 cents.

in vf5, akira can be played by beginners. even on pad...

his combos dont require much anymore...

he was my main in vf4evo, but when they made akira player-friendly in 5, i switched to my vf4evo secondary, wolf, as my main.

I would say akira is easier to play now but is still not noob friendly that would be a grave understatement.

dont get me wrong, akira is easier to play, but he can STILL be played very effectively. for example, i have yet to beat konjou's akira in a tourney...

i was simply stating that akira can be played on pad. my friend daniel can do his 1 frame knee on pad, and he does it pretty consistently. he can also do all of akira's combos with relative ease. i am not a pad player, and even i can do all of akira's moves and combos...

but this is with VF experience ofcourse. for a str8 NOOB, you're right, akira is pretty intimidating...largely because of his input commands.

Hi everybody, i'm new to this fantastic forum.
I've always played Akira on any VF game but unfortunately i've never had the support of friends playing the same game (very unpopular game here). So basically i've always played against the CPU, which is not good.
Now that i play online my fears have had a confirmation: i have no prolem at all in quest mode, but online i deeply suck.
I need some sage advice from experienced players.

My main problem is speed. CPU is somewhat more "slowly thinking", and so i can manage my way through a match. On the other hand, when i play online, i have great difficulties to dela with fast moving characters launching strings of punches and low punches. I'm totally blocked and can't seem to react properly. What should i do? I've tried countering but i can't always get the right timing. I've tried to CD under them and react with a single palm, but i get hitten. With a series of low punches it's even worse.
So far i've only won a match, and it was against a Jeffry player.

Another question. I use the pad and not the stick. So far i can input quite consistently almost all of Akira complicated combos, but i can never land and iDblP. Any suggestions? Is it possbile to do it doing a hcb,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif of i need to insert separate inputs for /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif?

Modified doublepalm is /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif.

It is possible to do /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif.

Which is the best move to punish the last low kick of a combo like /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif of Lau if i see it coming and parry it? Is there any guaranteed damage afterwards? Which are the best options?

Yes there are guaranteed options.. Laus sweep is whopping -25 on block.. Its counterable by my grandma even..

Hmm... looks like /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif is even guaranteed.. easy combo
    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif - /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif.

If not then /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif -> whatever you are able to combo.
    maybe /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif - /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif - /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif

Note: this is for Lau, other characters may not be that much in disadvantage.

Here's a question. I want to know what kind of "approaches" Akira really has.

What I mean by this is say I retreated a little and now there's a gap between me and the opponent. I want to know what some good moves to use while closing the gap / attacking are besides double palm and SDE. If i use it too often it gets too predictable.

Another noob question is i find that akira really doesn't have alot of moves that can attack low from a standing position other than low backfist and just straight up down + k, am i missing something here?

    Thanks for any advice.

Don't use doublepalm for 'approaching' unless you are really confident because it is VERY punishable on block.

    Good approach moves are:
/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif (very safe on block, good advantage on hits)

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif will go under high attacks when you have advantage, cannot be sabakied (its a shoulder), halfcircular move, safe on block, good advantage on hits. Excellent move against P-spammers.

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif crouch stagger, safe on block

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif~/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif is also great move. Safe on block, knockdown crouch guarders and good damage. Also if you do it with crouch dash (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif~/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif) it has a tendency to make opponents mess up their evade timing (delay caused by crouch dash). This move has little weaknesses apart if some good player blocks the first and evades the second hit.

Also if you are at medium range, a good move to try is
/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif. It hits mid and will turn opponent sideways on hit, giving you good advantage. It is also semicrcular move.

And you are right, Akiras low moves really suck. His strategy is (in theory) more about forcing opponent to stand block with his myriad mids and throw.

I've been trying to figure out how to do the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif (after 1 frame) /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif move.

Can someone tell me the timing of the button presses?
    I can't figure it out.

Theres no actual timing.. On my stick, I slam my index finger and thumb down at same time so that index hits K and thumb scrapes the edge of G button. Then thumb slides off and index finger remains on K. Thus I will get the Knee. How to do it on pad I have No idea.

ZeroEX I answered this question very recently on the Akira thread of neoempire. If you know much about the history of VFDC, you'll see that asking about this move is kind of a thorn in the side /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Anyhow if you ever need to know anything about Akira moves/combos etc feel free to ask on neoempire too and I can answer there. Or whenever the next neoempire VF event is, if we're both going I can show you a few things in action if you like.

That's awesome LM_Akira, it'd be nice to see an experienced player teach me a few things.

I did do a search here on VFDC and saw pretty vague answers on that move so I just wanted to see if anyone actually knows the sequence.

I should visit Neo more though.

yeah it would be cool if you could make it down to a future neo empire event, online is great but offline vf even better /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
judging by your fast improvement you could be really good at this game if you stick at it.
