You can earn items?

I just ordered a copy of VF4 and a Jap ps2 and will be waiting for it to arrive. For the people who already own a copy of VF4, what are these items people earn?

Im trying to understand what this is becuase I hear if you lose to a clone you can lose your items. What items can you earn? how do you earn them? ect ect. Can anyone help fill in the blanks for me? Thanks
