Well I've read almost every thread here about the online function. But I'm still unshure if I'm going to buy the Xbox 360 it's about 400 to 500 € I have to spend and it's just for VF5. Since I already spend about 700€ on the PS3 version and I'm not really interested in any other games except couldcept saga, if it'll be ever available in europe. I'm not so shure if I should buy the Xbox 360 version. I'm thinking of skipping it untill the next version. So I really want to know about the online play, since that's the only thing that would make me buy the 360.

I don't think there'll be too many german players, but including the neighboring countrys it sums up to a really nice bunch. And I know there are some really professional players in the UK. So if anyone has played cross country like: germany to UK, netherlands to poland or anything simmilar. Plz write how the gameplay is, because that'll decide if I'm going to buy it or not.

Every german, french and skandinavian player I have played so far, the connection was surprisingly good. In fact I'd say Great! I could combo/fuzzy/counter etc pretty much normally (inasmuch as I can with the FRIKKIN PAD). If there was lag, it didnt affect my play so far. I can tell more when my stick arrives and I get to try the tight stuff. Same applies for pretty much all european players I have played, except some UK people have for some reason bad lag. Stop downloading porn when you play! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Every US player I have played had too much lag, and australian/new zealand connection is a joke. :S

so far may experience with connection quality is:

scotland, england, finland, netherlands, germany, denmark, sweeden....usually great connection (no noticable lag)

france - 50/50...can be great or laggy (probably related to whether player is in north or south france)

italy - laggy (although to be fair i've only played a couple of people from pizza land)

usa - only played a couple, one guy from new york was perfect connection, others a bit laggy

in summary - if you play peeps in your vicinity (say radius of 1000-2000km) you'll have a great/good connection. outside that it's a bit of a lottery.

when the connection is good everything will play alomost identically to a normal vs game. when it's badly lagging, however, forget it.

in my experience lag tends to slow the game down and invalidate buffered inputs. for example, when bad lag strikes i'll almost always fail the second part of lion's float starter

....and instead spam a backward facing punch or kick.
/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif will also fail to materialize after blocking a low

again, this is only when the lag is really bad.

Do sabakis/reversals and the onhit throws aoi & wolf have work properly? Cause the timing is pretty tight with those. If those work good then I'll be online too soon ^-^

When you get good connection then everything seems to work properly. Depending on opponent it varies between "no lag" <-> "so much lag its a complete joke". Inside Europe it feels on average very enjoyable though. My personal opinion that this is definitely worth it for those matches with no lag. Especially if you got no local competition otherwise.

I think I played someone from America yesterday, he had a copy and it wasn't lagging, I kept asking the guy to make sure cause wow, that connection was good. No lag, and we had a good match.

As I'm an Aoi player maybe I can comment on the sabakis, reversals and on-hit throws quite competently. I was utmost impressed that the all these frame-precise techniques work as perfectly online as offline; provided that the connection between you and your opponent is good. I haven't played against any German players yet, but against many people from the UK without any noticeable lag worth mentioning.

MystD, given that there is no real VF5 offline competition in Germany, the 360 version gives you an opportunity here that shouldn't be ignored, and that actually does work. Whether it's worth buying a whole Xbox system (+ an Arcade Stick, + the game itself + Xbox Live Gold), I cannot tell. I did so on the day when Sega announced there will be a X360 VF5 version and ended up with more than a dozen games that are not related to Virtua Fighter in any way. But if it's worth only for the sake of VF5 Live ...

From my experiences from MMOs, I think UK gets for some reason better crossatlantic connection than rest of europe. This pure hunch though.

I played Leonard_McCoy earlier, me in the UK, him in Germany. He was catching my kicks and punches with ease and throwing me all over the place.

Apart from Leonard, I've played people from several other countries today:

France - couple of matches with a bit of lag

UK - all matches except one have been lag free, the one with had minor lag

    Switzerland - no lag

    Sweden - no lag

    Italy - a bit laggy

    Spain - no lag

    US - no lag

I was nearly about to give up on the online earlier tonight, I had trouble doing simple things as quick recoveries! Turned out we were taxing our upload a bit too much, so packets either got lost or delayed, resulting in annoying lag. Once I turned off the torrent program on my PC I had really good games the rest of the evening (and my roomie was still uploading at 100kB/s).

Usually it is not an issue as we have 2mbit UL, but I had been gone for the weekend so my roomie had turned his upload up more than normal.
    Cute namecalling too, newbie.

Well I've bought a 360 in ebay. Don't want to support MS too much. Don't like MS and I'll just sell it again with less loss if the next online version of VF is out. Just hope I dont get cheated off my money. I'm still a bit skeptic about ebay.

I wish you luck. I bought a JP PS2 off Ebay years ago and it's been great. There was a photo of the actual product and the person had sold other things related AND had good feedback. Clear signs of fraud are use of manufacturer's images only and a bunch of unrelated items in previous sales. If I saw 345 stuffed animals in the sellers history and then one new-in-a-box X360 - forget it.
