Kage TFT combo, guarenteed 84 damage!

This combo works on,
Wolf, Jeffery, Jacky, Pai, Aoi, Sarah, Lion, Kage, Lei-Fei
and Vanessa.

non- TR-able, heavy damage.
the somersault hits so low that you get the full 38, which makes it so damaging!

IIRC on anybody heavier than Lion it's TRable, but then again maybe I'm just not doing it fast enough /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

 

I have a crazy idea.. .but it just. might. work.

Go into PS2 training mode, choose CPU settings, then choose detailed settings. Go to recovery and choose "towards screen".

Now you can always be sure whether or not a combo is really TR-able or not. The combo is a good one by the way... but it was posted before as being vanessa/lion only and that's still correct.

On a side note, you can get TFT -> knee -> elbow -> dragon punch, but the damage is crappy. 70. You can also do TFT, knee, elbow, P, dragon punch, but the damage is STILL crappy... 73. You can also switch the order of the punch and elbow for ... 73 points of damage, darn.
I'm still experimenting with this setup to see if more damage can be gotten. A heavier opponent might not fly too far away from the kickflip the way lighties do..

actually, while the character in training can dodge the +, a person (extensive research on behalf of me and my friends), and the fact it has worked EVERY time in kumite i've done it.
maths.works on most characters, i have fought 400 fights, always used this with my TFT, do 2 TFT's a fight, thats probably around 600-700 times i have done this combo.
try it on a friend CREED, and you will see yourself wrong! /versus/images/icons/smirk.gif

 

There's something you should probably understand -
If the computer can tech roll a combo in training mode (any combo), then a good player can do it too.

In fact, no offense or anything, but even a not-so-good player can tech roll the kickflip in your TFT combo, assuming they aren't vanessa or lion. Just because the kickflip hits the kumite mode CPU (who fights like a retard) does not mean it's a true combo. If I can get 100 wins in a row in kumite mode using NOTHING but vanessa's charged b,b+K+G --> low throw... does that mean bb+K+G -> low throw is a true combo? Or even a good strategy?
Hint: <font color="yellow">NO</font color>.

As for getting the combo vs. your friends... they should practice their tech rolls for a bit on the PS2. I trained the computer to do this combo against me juuuust to be sure I knew what I was talking about, and I tech rolled out of it using Jacky 10 times in a row. I -will- admit I screwed up the timing the first time the combo happened to me, but from the 2nd to 11th try I didn't eat the kickflip ever again. It's not a combo.

In VF2 or VF3, 73 points from this specific throw was considered a waste... 110 was the standard in VF2, 95 in VF3.

Not that I'm complaining - but the combos are about as difficult as VF2/VF3's equivalent and 20-30 points less rewarding. If I were a kage player I might be mildly disappointed, but I'm not so it's fine with me. Kage doesn't lack for good throws.

 

I always thought they should take away his + throw since the TFT could do so much damage, or ring out really easily. Down to me is a 'queer' direction to escape a throw, as only three characters have it. Vanessa's only available in OS, and Lau's is now severly weakened (easier to struggle out of the stagger).

Anyways, being able to take off half the bar in damage w/o a counter hit generally promotes repetitive gameplay, so I'm glad to see it weakened in VF4.

 

yeah, it's still really strong at 40%, and I like that you must commit to damage OR range but not both (the best damage combos don't come even close to the best range combo for RO distance).

Kage gets four good throw directions because his standard float/flop/crumple combos are all in the 60-70 point range compared to wrestler's 100's... jacky or sarah's 90's...Lau's 80's... etc. I haven't seen anyone rank him number one even though he looks pretty good on paper. Probably because his best combo starters are either slow or risky, with the FC chop being a nice exception.

 

So Kage has 3 good throw directions (b,d,df), except that the TFT now requires memorizing per-character combos just for 80 damage. So what? He's probably going to be needing the choices more than Sarah (whose best throw has an even weirder escape, db) or Akira (whose b,d+P+G is one of the two good ones).

 

I'm no kage player by any stretch, but if you're in doubt, do this string after the TFT:

That works on everyone I'm pretty sure, and does at least 60 damage -- which is a better than average throw, and has low timing risk compared to other 'tossing combos'. /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

/versus/images/icons/laugh.gif My mates might be in a different league than your mates maybe? Just a thought. I'll take guaranteed 80 over possible 84 every time. If you miss that kickflip you've lost practically half the combo's damage potential.

 

My staple TFT combo is knee, d+P+K, kickflip. It's a super-reliable 80 points, the only issue is whether or not to let the crouch dash stretch out a bit when using the knee vs. lightweights. It works even on wolf and jeff. You can squeeze an extra punch in there, but there isn't much point.

Kage's f+P+G is also a pretty decent direction. b,f+P+G - your basic 25% damage throw. Not too shabby, and leaves them in a good position for oki. If you've got a pretty hefty kyasao-like brain, f+P+G can set up some very damaging sequences.

 

after his f+p+g throw, i just follow up with his jmpy uppercut thing-kick.

dragon punch (uppercut thing) into the canned kick followup is what most people use. Since float height varies, you can't get the kick on everyone. Also, because hits vs. a crouching opponent float lower, some people will crouch to take less damage from the attack. This is what makes the throw strong (or at least stronger than b,f+P+G)... if they crouch, you can do f+P to backstagger them, then go to uf+K+G, d+P+K,K. I don't know if it's possible to get out of this, but backstaggers last a lonnng time.

 

I like using Aoi against Kage, Shun, & Lion. They only try their from behind mid attack once, and then it's guessing games from then on out.
