Do curse items do anything bad to you?

Well curse items are given to you to emphasize certain flaws in your gameplay.

There are several ways to get cursed and the removal technique usually involves the mastery and application of particular key defensive/offensive techniques.

Note conversely items are rewarded for good play as well, usually by winning

Curse Removal
Variation in throws
Dodging
Scoring
Simply winning
Tech Rolling

The method of curse removal depends on how you gained the curse.

 

No, they don't make your character's performance worse. That would be really unfair ~~~> you're not playing well, so you get a curse item, then that lowers your characters performance by making him slower or less powerful... nah, that would be too frustrating for casual players.

Like ken said, they're simply there to emphasize what part of your game is really weak. Improve how you play and they'll be removed.
