Judging by the VFDC poll results so far, I'm impressed to see that Akira is the second most popular character here. The good news is that Akira is much, much easier to play with than before and therefore a great character to learn even if you are new to VF. Here is my view on his top 10 (not in order of importance):

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
The low punch should be in everyone's top 10! So maybe it doesn't really count.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
Just using /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif is useful in terms of setting up your flowcharts and to interrupt opponents. Never underestimate the power of /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif > throw and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif > quick attack. Use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif to punish when at +11 to +13.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
One of Akira's main attacks. His Dashing Elbow (DE) executes in a speedy 14 frames, has good range, staggers crouching opponents, and is completely safe even when blocked at -5 (note that you can fuzzy guard). When the opponent is at short or middle distance to you and you don't know what to do, just do this move and you'll do fine most of the time.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
The Super Dashing Elbow (SDE) is Akira's money move. The SDE is also very quick at 14 frames (though effectively 15 because of the triple /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif command), has fantastic range, knocks down on normal hit, and best of all, floats on major counter for high damage opportunities. Did I also mention that you're only -8 on block? Use this move when you have advantage or after staggering an opponent with DE (alternate with a throw).

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
Use the Yoho when you need big damage. Yoho floats for a significant combo even on normal hit, and it also has great distance and relatively quick execution at 18 frames. However, it is -15 on block so use with care. In VF5 you should use Yoho over SPOD, especially now that the latter is linear.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
Akira's main low attack is slow, but it has decent damage potential, will duck under high attacks, and is one of the few low attacks that is safe on block in the game. Use this every once in a while. Be warned though that your better opponents can block this attack on reaction.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
Your main long distance attack with Akira. This move now requires no timing in VF5 and thus is easy to execute. It is also half circular in that the opponent must dodge to Akira's stomach and ducks under certain high attacks. On block Akira is safe at -7; on hit Akira has +4 advantage, which is perfect for an SDE or a throw follow-up.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
A long range knock down attack that's great against back dashers and also for when opponents QR/TR. It's also quite safe on block at -4. Best of all, it must be dodged to Akira's back. Between this move and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif Akira has dodging and distance covered. Who says that Akira's weakness is linearity?!

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif
Probably Akira's most damaging throw. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif > /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif > /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif works on all but heavy weights. For the latter, go for /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif > DLC.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif > /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif ground attack
/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif > sidekick/double palm is a good alternative, but if you're relying on this post to improve your game I assume you're more of a beginner. If that's the case /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif is more than sufficient.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif > /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
I think every character should have at least 3 throws as part of the top 10.

There you have it--what I think are the top 10. Akira's movelist isn't that large and most of his moves are useful in one way or another, but other moves that should regularly fit into your rotation include (in no particular order):

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
Use this move to punish when at +14 or after a successful dodge. The standing palm is good even when blocked as Akira retains advantage. However, the attack hits high and so I wouldn't recommend it as a poking attack.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
Excellent and safe poking attack. Requires just frame timing for the canned follow-up however. When you get really good at stepping this can be an effective tool to poke with.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif
A very low risk middle distance attack; great for poking. Try the following flowchart: /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif > SDE, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
The double palm isn't as useful in VF5 due to the clash, but it's still a 13 frame attack that knocks down with great range. Be careful though as it recovers at -15 on block.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
Akira lost some range off his sidekick relative to VF4 but it's still a good sidekick.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
    For combos and reverse nitaku.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif with 1-frame /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif
    Alternative launcher.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
Sabakis high and low punches and can be hit checked for safety.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
Sabakis middle punches and elbows. A good choice after getting SDE blocked against certain opponents (e.g. Lau and Jacky).

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif
Catch throw that is especially useful when opponents are attempting to QR/TR. Obviously use one of the catch throws follow-ups to inflict damage.

What's the reasoning for him being "easier to play" in VF5? Just cause he has more moves to work with? It can't just be because of the toned down dragon lance.

I think his new b, f P+K+G attack could be mentioned as well. An immediate side turn and fairly good damage.

I think the P+K poke addition helped, and also the general reliability (and big damage) of the 43P, [2]46P bounce combo. I certainly find him easier to play now (though I was never really that serious into Akira).

And while I like the new 46P+K+G, I can't help but find myself missing the old one.

People should feel free to add in what they think are the more valuable moves--my post shouldn't be taken as gospel though I of course I always think I'm right. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Akira is easier to play with because you just don't need as much dexterity as you did before in VF4 to maximize effectiveness. SPOD is no longer a key move. DLC is easier to do. AS3 is easier to do. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif does not require just frame timing. Akira also now has a reliable, easy to do default air combo in /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif > /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif > /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif. And IMO SDE major counter combos are now easier to hit check.

This is my take on the topic, not to disagree with Jeff, just my idea about Akira's best moves in 5. Note that while /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif are vital, they're not unique to Akira, and the way they're used by everyone is more or less universal, so I'm not gonna list them here (also because normal hit /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif -> Nitaku pretty much sucks in VF5).

    In no particular order:

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif: This attack is Akira's essence. The risk/reward here is great, even the easy combos give nice damage, AS3 applicable on many normal hits, staggers on crouch. His fastest mid combo starter, same speed as most people's mid POKES, use it constantly. When it's guarded, practice your defensive techniques and Yomi (-8, you can't Crouch Dash a Throw).

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif: primary mC tool at +14 or better when standing, also good after Dodge (careful about crouching status oppts), at Ready... Go, when you're expecting a mid Reversal/Sabaki, punishing failed evades, etc. Combos from it have been improved since 4, also useful in combos before /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif. Sobers Shun, +1 on Guard... an indespensible move.

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif//forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif: go to Maddy's Akira videos thread and count the number of rounds that end in the Double Palm as a triple replay, and you'll start to realize the value of this attack. One of the fastest mids in the game, and one of the best, with great range, high priority, good damage. Close to the wall, this attack is so gnarly now, with the ability to make a wall KD. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif both rely on the Double Palm as the best follow-up. In addition, this is the final attack in countless STAPLE combos, because of it's big hit box, good damage and speed. If you aren't using this move in it's buffered form, you're not playing Akira to his full potential, at all.

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif//forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif: from a crouch dash, Akira's awesome mid (now that the shoulder's been nerfed). Think of this attack like a kind of "super-poke", because while it won't start combos, it always knocks down, it is safe (you can Fuzzy Guard or just Crouch Dash vs. a Throw), and it nets some really nice damage, especially on Counter Hit. Once crouching, you only need go to /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif to execute, so it's speedy and offers nice reward, especially close to the wall where you can tag on a Knee for more damage. I use this attack a ton in VF5.

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif (release /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif blah blah): 17 frames, good combos, hits on the ground... since there are many attacks that are -17 or 18 when guarded, getting a grip on this attack is essential, since the Yoho might take one more frame for the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif. Jacky and Sarah's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gifs are good examples of this. While the damage isn't as good as Yoho combos, it's a little safer on Guard, and I've noticed that the Yoho is REALLY shitty after Dodge now (anyone else seen this? It goes right through people all the time), so I'm recommending the Knee over the Yoho for now. You have to master it for wall combos anyway, so might as well just start loving it.

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif: This attack is a little slow, but fuck all that, this is now one of the best mids in the game! The damage you get from this attack is insane when followed with the EASY /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif at 72 points NORMAL HIT, plus it's +3 on guard! It's one of the things that I think is actually unbalanced in the game, this attack is just too good now. This is a finesse move, use it when they're a little out of range and they're gonna come in, or when you think they'll whiff something like /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif right in front of you. People shy away from it because it's slow, but show me another Mid that can get this much damage on normal hit, this easy, on any character in the game, regardless of stance, that's +3 on guard. Seriously, do it again after they guard it!

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif: basically, I'm putting this because #1: no one else would, #2: I love this move, always have. In sad news, it's damage cap has been nerfed @ 45, bringing the biggest possible damage total you can get with it to 72, not 96 as in Evo. BUT, if hitting in the side on counter, you can add /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif for even more damage, which is why they changed it I'm sure. to the back, it'll KD as well now, so you can add /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif. This attack is really quick, has a big hit box and great priority. When trying it, tap /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif afterwards in case you get /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, then you'll be safe on Guard. This move is great at hitting characters with Sabakis/Reversals as well, since it basically can't be Sabaki'd and only Aoi can Reverse it. Don't use it from the front, use it when they're showing back or side, or after you've dodged. Use it from the front to humiliate KO. This move might seem shitty on paper, but remember: this 13 frame mid is still the STRONGEST SINGLE HIT IN THE GAME, USE IT!

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif//forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif: Akira's signature, if you don't use this, you're not really Akira! Even if you mess it up, you still have to try. Now that it's been made linear, it's not as good against people who are Dodging, but still an incredible move. Like /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, don't focus on what it isn't, but what it IS: a 20 frame mid that does 67 damage (76 on couner hit!). That's better than all of his throws (aside from /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif), almost all of the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif combos, and many combos from his other launchers as well. In addition, there's the potential for more: Ring Out is possible, Down Attacks are possible if they don't TR, if hit into a wall you can follow with the Knee or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, and if they Quick Rise: back stagger. Plus, this attack does psychological damage that's priceless! Getting hit with the SPoD is demoralizing, it makes you feel like you've been owned. It really breaks confidence and concentration IMO, like few other moves in the game (the 100 point Giant Swing is also like this). Again, if you're playing Akira without this move, you're missing out.

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif: while these 2 are pretty different, which to use basically boils down to taste. I think some people are shying away from /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif because it can be kinda "cheap" (super easy ring outs), and seems un-Akira-ish (plus it's more risky), but I'd tell new players to use it as much as possible in the beginning, it really helps. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif doesn't work as many wonders, you can't /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif if they hit the wall anymore, and "Just" teching it got easier; but it's totally safe now, and you'll respect yourself in the morning. You wouldn't want to look like Kage would you?

So, that's my list. My list is the attacks I feel make Akira unique, and give him his flavor as a "Power Type".

    I have to put in a vote for /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif

A real scrub killer, though it's hella punishable one block. Seems very worth the risk even if it's only to crush low punches.

    My top 10? hmm...

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
Side crumples ON NORMAL HIT! *little correction needed there* His body check is his highest reward to risk technique. If it hits, you're pretty much set, if it's blocked/whiffs, you're dead. Best move I use since /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif causes side turn and if you throw a lot after it, it will bait your foe... ^_^

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif and/or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
Single and dbl palm attacks. Done from crouch. Great for whiffed high attacks *key Sarah Bryant*. When in doubt, use his Sngl-plm Elbow follow to test your opponent. Start using Dbl-Plm as combo finishes or against people who think crouching is a good idea vs. Akira *which it is not. The two WORST people in this game to crouch against I think are Akira and Lau*

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
Renkentai. Noob-sauce at its best. If you're totally unsure of how to deal with an odd crumple, a great CH, or just starting with Akira, using this kick as part of juggles or wall smashing is pure MONEY. It's damage is great and for all you 'pros' out there, DO CONSIDER using this kick to crush wake-up kicks. I kicked several idiots many times to force them to wake up blocking. [then I threw them ^_^]

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
Overhead Dbl-Palm. It's like his normal double palm, only slow startup and SAFE on block. [I got thrown out of dbl-plm a few times] It IS sidestep bait but if you counter a whiffed technique [try and hit their extended limb if it falls short, wakeup kicks are an idea] they can kiss 90+ points of their HP goodbye if near the wall.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
Sidestep/techroll rapist technique. Educated VF5 players know Akira doesn't deal with dodge. This is one of his moves that will teach them otherwise... *evil laugh* They're in crouch status afterward but a low punch from them can stop you. Consider his Sabakis or really fast mids [SDE?] *used when they SS to your back*

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
Ah yes, the Turning Double Fist. I charge it as a bazooka hit for hilarious results if they're side crumpled from his body check. GIANT damage and safe on block. A sidestep killer *when they SS to your front*

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif
Demonic setup. Back SS killer. It forces side turn giving you SUPER HUGE advantage. Body check after this if you're confident, or use DE or mid kick if uncertain. Throwing afterward will bait attacks.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
Low Punch killer. Fringe Benefits? Stops High punches too!! 0_0 If your foe is a high punch poker, Lion and Eileen and Lau come to my mind, this is your money move.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, followups: /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/ /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/ /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif
Whoa! wtf? His pull in throw and follow ups are a NUTTY form of mixup that leaves your foe with a 25% guess at what you'll do. You'll headbutt, 2 side checks, or sidestep into guard break. That's 4 things you can do to really mess with their heads. Kills sidesteppers and has STUPIDLY long reach. You can do it if your standing punch can touch them out of throw range. [why do you think /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif is so damn good huh? ^_^]

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
His two elbows. I like his normal DE over his SDE. His normal DE has less damage but is AWESOME for hit checks. That and every good Akira I've fought would 'almost' spam this move. If you're sure they're not going to side step, you're at advantage, this is the move to force blocking. [which in turn, you respond with either his guard breaks or some throw]

Those are my top ten. You may find that I don't have any normal throws in there. Everyone I've fought who's worth fighting breaks my normal throws so I've only included his pull-in as his best. Take note that every sidestep killer he's got is in there. The best Akiras need those of that I am 110% certain. Stumble throws should be considered since most non-Akira fighters assume either forward or offensive crouch for a throw break but smart players will learn to mash/escape those too.

I'd agree with most of those 10, but I really liked the descriptions for each haha. "Fringe benefits" lol, too good.

  10. I've been looking at this thread for a few days and started incorporating some of the different strategies into my game which in turn improves my unpredictability. I see no one mentioned his shoulder. I use it occasionally in my play mainly for the huge stumble (slow recovery = splm> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif>DP) or as a followup for /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif just for confusions sake. I know the risk reward isn't great but as long as you use TEG's the only thing you have to worry about is /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif IIRC.

    If its only 10..

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
Excellent, fast, simple and effective midmove that crouchstaggers and is easy to do quickly. Sets up more stuff.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
Possibly Akiras best launcher all things considered.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif~/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
As long as you know how to fuzzy, you can usually throw this out pretty liberally. not counting opponents who sabaki/evade second hit. Knocks down always, and crouchdash is often useful little delay to catch evaders. Excellent range and surprisingly good damage. Possibly my favorite Akira move

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
    Always necessary.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
Combo on any hit, variation so not all Akiras attacks hit mid, fast enough to work as reverse nitaku in some cases, great punisher. Enough damage to beat several elbowclass attacks in a simlutaneous hit situation (Like opponent SDE at start of round)

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
Huge addition to Akiras arsenal and against all those anti-Akira moves and sabakis. Mid, highcrush, semicircular, shoulder, good advantage on hit. Safe.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif
Again huge addition to Akiras arsenal, combo from throw, ringout potential. Ps. Ice-9: P-P-DLC works on ALL characters.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
Useful low attack which I considered dropping out of this list because its too slow to get counterhit in a reverse nitaku situation even if this never clashes with a highthrow.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
Another quick, and useful highcrush midattack with multiple followups. Huge advantage on hit highattack, crouchstagger mid attack, or huge advantage on block combostarter high attack.

    Knee
If Id add any big launcher on this list, it would be this due to yoho's hitbox issues.

    ps.

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif~/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif Would have been too obvious.. I could invent lots of reasons why majority of Akiras attacks could be on this list..

    pps:
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif(release /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif after one frame) it hops over lows. </div></div> - This isnt true, but its still a good attack.

Propably, but in what situation and which one? Lei has several sweeps and they are like 20 frames the fastest and 37 frames the slowest or something, and Akiras knee is 17 frames fast. You propably beat it simply due to the knee being faster.
